I've just bought a cheap 561 for use in the shed.

The current firmware is 1.3; I've managed to download 561_177.mfu from the Meridian Web Site; I have a few of questions for those with long memories...

1. What is the latest firmware for the 561?
2. Will 1.77 work on my 561; it's not a 561m?
3. What are the differences between the firmware versions?

I'll probably do the firmware upgrade this weekend, I just want to make sure I don't brick it!

All the best,

Steve.

You probably can't brick it as Meridian typically have flash upload bios different to firmware so is normally available even if firmware foobar. so you can keep trying until it takes.

Good luck

You'll be fine Steve. IIRC, the same firmware is used for 561 and 561M anyway. I used the 561_177.mfu when I was playing around with a 561 a couple of years ago.

Lots of differences between 1.3 and 1.77 I think, probably including addition of PLII (though that might have been pre-1.3).

Steve

How and where did you find this to download? Have Meridian put older FW back up on their website?

I use 1.77 on my 561, it's the standard one (i.e. not the 561m)
good luck.

Well, the upgrade from 1.3 to 1.77 went without a hitch.
Now I'll just have to get the rest of the 'shed' system:-

Mac Pro; have
504; need
v
561; have
v
DSP5000 or M1*; need and need to make my mind up which way to go...

Thanks again guys,

Steve

*I'm looking at making a M1 homage, I have the dome midranges and a 6 channel amp so far...

SHED? SWMBO here insists that it is the "Summer House"
5Ks IMHO would better homage any day, unless you are keen on nostalgia and intend to visit the Virgin Islands.

...18-bit, at that.

There's a 504 available from one of those-who-must-not-be-named.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.
