I would be highly surprised if the mid to high end NAS systems would be underpowered to run the core. Should be easily possible, with room to spare for other apps, storage, etc.

I can really see Meridian putting their streaming gear into a different market than their music and home cinema systems.
Like with the Explorer, also a different market.

Putting in the NAS as the core will allow them to enter at a totally different price point, generating significant more revenue.

I think it will be a bold and smart move.

For the real Meridian die hards, they will be able to focus their funds on end point & music system quality, which is where it counts, not in the commodity storage.

Anyway, we'll know in a few days.

So is there a suggestion here that there may be a 'streamer' coming out, which will not be an endpoint? Or that the QNAP's will allow streaming to PC's Macs, etc. but without the need for an actual Meridian endpoint which could be purchased later if wanted?

How would that differ from Control:Mac/Control:PC now?

Core running in QNAP NAS, I think he means.

And no, that is not suggested anywhere in the M documentation.

I don't get this part. There is no licensing fee or anything overall proprietary. Seems like it won't help the sales of their Sooloos hardware at all.

I see them selling lots of $299 Explorers. Are you suggesting they will sell more DSP's or processors as they introduce more people to the brand?

You would need an end point. I.e. a MS200 would be enough. Which is 725 eur list if not mistaken. Meridian would sell a lot more MS200's this way....

I think the assumption there's no license fee may prove incorrect. I can't see Meridian giving away proprietary Sooloos functionality free and for nothing. Why would they do that?

They would need to recover their costs somehow!

You could be correct, I don't know. I was going for a form of end user fee. Also, I doubt the Sooloos code is as valuable as Meridians MLP.

If storage and core where on QNAP, you would still need to purchase an endpoint to hook things up to your hifi set?

You could do the playback on your PC, in which case Meridian would not earn any money. You'd be able to control the PC\Mac playback with an iPad, once you have the control app running.

I don't think that is a huge problem, other systems have the same issue.

Agree that the real value is in the endpoints and the Meridian systems.

Anyone happen to notice these recent tweets form Tim Ireland?

Tim Ireland Tweet 7/29

I wonder if we'll see anything more on the Sooloos side vs. the rest of the line...

I had a query on something couple weeks back and was ask to wait till mid August as they were very busy at moment.

Looks like something(s) in the air.
