Ouch, this stings a little. As an owner of a MC600, I would have liked this info a couple months ago. I guess we now know what is keeping the lights on at Meridian.

Also, why stop at QNAP? It's not like QNAP's NAS technology is anything especially cutting edge. Why not just open it up. Presumably, Meridians offing is just a plugin.

QNAP's Long List of Plug Ins

Most of these NAS hardware manufacturers have these plugin options. Not sure I get the point of locking it down to QNAP.

I have C15 and an MS600, and was thinking about storage addition like TwinStore.

Given this announcement, assuming you can tie yourself over until August, I'd wait.

Sounds like you might have the option to purchase a NAS (if you don't have the right one yet) and then use that.

It would give you lots of other opportunities as well...

I suspect it's a commercial deal that works the upside for both parties.

Hi Yetis,
I understand your sting, I myself own a MD600.
But I choose to look at this as a very positive development.

Meridian is clearly opening their MDMS to other players, both hardware and software!

Who would have thought that just a month ago? This can only be a good thing. This will hopefully allow more consumers to access the Meridian Streaming Audio System (its nice to see that their Marketing Department has joined the 21 Century). I suspect the partners Meridian has chosen at this time has a lot to do with their desire to keep things simple so that all goes well as they put this first toe into the waters of open systems a very smart move, I believe.

The key here is to get more consumers interested in and purchasing a Meridian MDMS system, as streaming audio is where the future clearly is heading. As we all have invested a lot of money in our Meridian systems (I just upgraded to DSP7200.2s) anything that grows the Meridian ecosystem is good for all of us.

We should all give a hardy Bravo to the folks at Meridian for this exciting first move.

Even though I already own a MD600 and a TwinStore, I think this is a good move for M Sooloos product direction, kudos to the mgmt and engineers for dreaming this up!

I'm mostly looking forward to the dBpa plugin, hopefully it will simplify my CD ripping!

Great move, and I say this as a Netgear ReadyNAS owner.

QNAP have been going forwards whilst (frankly) ReadyNAS have been going backwards for a couple of years.

If M could add more manufacturers with plug ins for their NASs this can only be positive for them. Most of these manufacturers have been offering Squeezebox server plug ins for a while, and adding an MC200 for core would not be hugely expensive, especially as it also provides a zone.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

More manufactures and a Windows-based option please. Im afraid Ive invested too much time in setting up a multi-media server solution to want to change any time soon.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Hopefully this paves the way for the M80 replacement to be a Sooloos core but with remote storage. Would be great if the MS200 or a new budget product could act as a core as well.

MC200 is about as budget as a core unit will get I expect.
Compared even to 500 and G series units it is pretty well priced.

Hello

Am I right that using an MC200 as core and QNAP as storage will still result in a dead system when the HDD in the MC200 fails?

What other device runs core without a HDD?

Neil

How does the Core on the MD600 work then? Does it use part of the storage drive(s)?
