From the Wiki, the speaker itself is "only" 63kg.
I bet the structure would carry more load if it were narrower say the same width as the 5500HC itself. Less bending moment with the end load going straight down to the floor via the sides.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong. The HC is virtually the same as a single 5500 & they're 80kg each. I've just looked at Meridian's data sheet for the HC & it quotes 81kg.

The stand came with additional metal supports which you can place between the top and bottom shelf but even if the 5500.2HC sitting on top its not causing the top to bend at all, probably due to the weight being distributed over most of the surface area and not just in the middle.

Finally got a semi decent layout for my "new" DSP6000's. Here's some pics as promised.

I listen from the armchair and from the desk where the computer monitor is, the sound at the desk is a little compromised, but it's still really good.

A considerably less complex setup, assuring high WAF. Very elegant.

Meridian, the best?

I just want to thank Rob, Ian, Des and Meridian for the musical experience I have with Meridian. I've heard the most, but am not afraid to compare the conditioning I currently have with anything, so Meridian must have done something right here.

Buy Meridian entire line and you will be satisfied smile
I did not belive in Trifield (my own, in my own room) before, but now ... fantastic with the new 7200.2.

Amazing is the word here, plain and simple.
Just now playing Brian Simpson. smile
