As a power conditioner/UPS will have a characteristic source impedance much higher than the mains supply then if a power amp takes a significant current and this varies with the output power/volume then the supply voltage will be modulated with an inverse mirror of the signal.
This could potentially cause a degradation of sound in front end components also connected to the power conditioner. The extent of this effect would vary depending on the equipment internal power supply designs.

Ive just done a google search for ExactPower and found that a UK distributor exists, contactable on mdc-hifi@virgin.net I`ll give them a try, thanks everyone. Are any of you using UK sourced products ? I want the best I can get/afford but as the rest of my system is "British" would prefer to support our local Hifi industry, if possible.

Just had a bounce back from that email address. enquiries@mdc-hifi.co.uk might be better, though their UK website makes no mention of ExactPower products. Anyway, Ive emailed them asking if they are or are not the official UK distributor, just in case anyone's interested.

inf you look at the exactpower website you will find: England MDC Ltd. PO Box 4146 Epping, Essex CM16 6HJ United Kingdom 44-1992-573030 mdc-hifi@virgin.net So you seem to have the right address. Perhaps contact Exactpower USA to verufy who is selling it in the UK? Jaco [This message has been edited by jaco (edited 04-23-2004).]

Shunyata's site has this contact information: http://www.shunyata.com/modeldriver.aspx?navitemid=2332 For the skeptics that claim that you cannot run an amp through a PLC, find a way to borrow a Hydra with a 'Taipan Alpha' or better PC and give it a shot. I think you will be surprised on the benefits you will receive. Rod.

Hi Nick,
There has been some 'parting of the ways' of the original personnel of Isotek, I quote from the Isol-8 website:-
"New Company - Updated products Isol-8 Teknologies Limited announce the introduction of next generation versions of the mains filters and conditioning units, designed by award winning engineer Nic Poulson and formerly sold under the "IsoTek" brandname.
"These new designs are the next stage in the evolution of mains conditioning" says the designer, Nic Poulson, "and offer better attenuation of component cross contamination between hifi equipment than other similar devices, whilst continuing to offer outstanding value for money."
Also introduced into the range are some exciting new products; PS100 & PS200 mains regenerators, 16x100 multi-channel rack mount A/V conditioner and the Qube family is extended to include a 6KW unit. "
All the best, Phil

I got an Audiophile Candy newsletter last week, and that featured new products under the Isotek name.
I don't see two companies selling basically the same product lasting very long.

Again, if one wants to (surge) protect the equipment the best solution is a PS Audio PP, correct? Would the Shunyata do both? I was keen to try the EP (#1 choice) but it only cleans the power and not so much "protect".
Thanks,
MJC

MJC, The Shunyata Hydra-8 does protect your equipment from surges/spikes. It doesn't do anything for low voltage though. As for PS Audio being better then the Hydra-8 - I don't know as both seem to have excellent protection. http://www.shunyata.com/modeldriver.aspx?linkkey=HydraModel8 The prior Hydra did not have any protection other then a fuse.
