The money you will save with 23 lights at 50watt electric compared to 4.5 watts per unit will be substantial over time.
You may want to do a cost benefit analysis to see how long it takes to recover the investment.
I have to ask, does a 50watt halogen use 50 watts of electric or more?
The heat blistering will no longer be an issue.

Just thoughts, Chris smile

Hi Chris,

What really irritates is the paint blistering, they look like they have a very unpleasant disease!

They do contribute to room heating now though

Regards I

Can I also ask at same time whether a 12v 50w halogen uses same amount of electricity (give or take) as a 240v 50w halogen. w=iv says that it should, but some people say low voltage is more efficient.

There will be (small) loses in the 240v - 12v conversion; transformer or SMPS.
12v will be more sensitive to cable length (resistance) too, again very small differences.

Lumen output is more important; get more Lux for your watts...

All the best,

Steve.

Will it be brighter light if I use Nordost cables?

Go for cryogenically treated - it'll give your room a cooler ambience.

Do I sense a tiny amount of cynicism with reference to some high end marketing here?

Surely not!

Do the LEDs turn on and off 44,100 times per second? Will the light be any better if they switched 96,000 times/sec?

I think you may need to watch out for 96k because if you have more than one bulb in the room, won't you get double upsampling?
