My thoughts entirely. I went for it, and am happy to look elsewhere for sonic improvements (room treatments for example).

If the linear supply can be shown to improve SQ significantly then it's not really in competition with Meridian but I think this does provide a ballpark figure as to acceptable cost.

I'm sure some people pay will 'lots' for small improvements (and snake oil).

Hello

Bear in mind that the standard Meridian power supplies cost about 35 pounds and you can fit it yourself or have it fitted for about 50 pounds.

The proposed LPS is an upgrade so can't really be compared to Meridian's repair.

Unfortunately fitting the LPS will void any warrantee that may be in place.

Would be very interested if the price was right.

This would need to make sense VS the Meridian upgrade @ 350 including the 3 year guarantee extension (not to mention easy to fit for a novice!).

If a SQ improvement is part of the package then it's more difficult to put a price on the value of the upgrade as I am sure we have all paid lots of pennies for SQ upgrades over the years.

Has anyone had one of the proposed PS fitted to their unit that could post RE the SQ benefits?

Kind Regards

I don't think it's even been designed yet, but some of us already have linear supplies, and you might get an idea of what they can do from these threads:

Power supply upgrade
New Linear G68 PSU from Nick - initial thoughts

Yes this is still in the design stage, I have volunteered my G68 to be the trial unit.
Once we have confirmed there is enough interest, I will get a prototype unit to fit to my G68 and assess.

I'm very hopeful this will give a large improvement over the stock power supply, and also a big improvement over the LM317 type Linear PSU's that people have been trying.

I'm interested in this too. More from the sound quality improvement angle than the reliability one; an identical drop in SMPS replacement (readily available) is only around 50 and a couple of hours of your time, so I'd be thinking 200-250 max for this LPS group buy unit.

I'd need it to be a drop in replacement too, with holes aligned properly to the chassis points. Whilst I could drill new holes and do a small amount of DIY, I wouldn't want the faff, and any casing mods could potentially drop the future resale value, even if the upgrade is reversible.

Cheers

I also agree, this will be a drop in replacement that is totally reversible, (plug and play)
there will be no need to drill anything.
given the 2 SMPS types used over the years by M, we will make it possible to use both sets of holes.

I will inquire on cost, it may be that we have 2 options, one higher quality for higher cost using secondary 'audiophile' regulation.

I hate the word 'audiophile' in this context, so what i really mean is that the lower cost solution might employ regulators better than the condor LPS etc.. but with a good eye to cost.
the higher cost version might include 'no holes barred' top notch regulators at higher cost.

waiting to hear back on prototype designs and leadtimes :-)
thanks
