Hi Fred, I can't endorse Nick's comments enough. Ripping CD's is a loveless task and can take a very long time. If you use dBpoweramp or even EAC to rip to FLAC format, it will mean you only need to "Import" to Sooloos. This will minimise the delay of listening to something on your new equipment. If you don't do that prior to receiving your new Sooloos equipment it will be very much more difficult to appreciate how amazing it is to "pick and listen" and "swim" around your music collection (You'll soon know what I mean). I assure you, listening will never be the same. Happy ripping. /Marcus

@Nick & Marcus,
Thanks for the tip; I have started ripping my CDs today. I am using dBpoweramp ripping the CDs to lossless uncompresed FLAC and at same time retrieving the Metadata. Is this the best way to do it?

Yes...that's it. Install the HDCD plugin too and it'll auto detect any HDCD's you have (not all are labelled). These import as 24bit files just fine.
One extra tip.....start paying attention to the metadata that you get. You may start to see some of the oddities that we have to tidy up. The sooner you figure these out the easier it gets.
E.g. The Beatles and Beatles, The
The web data can bring both down with some artists on different CD's. Keep an eye on it and correct when needed.
When you get the Sooloos items there are a couple of tips to get then too....mid-Sept you said?

You want compression to save space, so lossless compression is what FLAC is all about. Good luck, chris

@Chris & Ronnie, Understood; I am now ripping to level 8, it seams to reduce the file size by 35% compared to lossless uncompressed. As I dont have a huge amount of CDs this should give plenty of room on a 2TB hard drive. @Nick, Ok I will keep an eye on the Metadata. Estimated delivery 14 September. Regards, Fred

Hi,
You mention 2TB a disc, I just wondered if you have ordered any disk yets for the MD600?
I know you said you don't have many CD's but I thought I check that you know that the MD600 (and TwinStore) supports larger drives. I run 3TB and they are fine.
I'm told that 4TB (and higher) are also ok but I've not tried it myself.

Hi Carl, Yes the MD600 will be supplied with 2TB hard disks. Rick is running his demo MD600 with 3TB drives and he will install the 2TB drives that he took out as part of the deal. I realise that larger drives can be installed but at the moment they will suffice. You cant look a gift horse in the mouth can you? Regards, Fred
