Hello Nick, I was thinking about the external switching MC200 PSU, would that be easy to replace with a higher quality linear psu?

I think that just needs 12V DC, right? That would be the easiest thing in the World to do. I'd want to be sure what the actual consumption was, though. The unit says 36W, but I doubt its as much as that. There are lots of off-the-shelf LPS solutions for 12V/1A, but not for 12V/3A.

If MC200 is used only as a store/core, would the power supply matter as sound quality is determined (if I understand the recent claims in Sooloos threads) by the downstream endpoint?

And I'd be right behind you, Crion, if there is an improvement with an external device.

Has interest waned after the manufacturer's offer, or something else? I'm currently not interested in M's power supply/health check/warranty offer.

Unfortunately, my interest is much greater that my skill to solve the power supply issues myself so I am relying on others like Nick to sort it out. I would like replace the suspect PSU with a clean, quiet, reliable one. U.S. spec. G68J.

Now that my G68 is mucking about and I'm thinking I will have to "pop the hood" to investigate why, I can't see why I wouldn't change out the PSU for a LPS at the same time.

Hi all, just wanted to let you know that I sourced a Kingrex PSU II 13v/3A to be used as the MC200 LPSU replacement. The PSU unit has a Neutrik XLR female as DC outlet with clear markings of + and GND so that part is golden. Tomorrow I will try and get a proper pin-contact for the MC200 end of the cable. There are tons of laptop type pin adapters around but I want to do it properly and solder a Neutrik XLR -> 12v pin cable custom made for the MC200 DC inlet.

I could also add that in the end I went with the Teddy Pardo 12/4 linear PSU for my MC200 which was a perfect fit, cables and all included. The Kingrex PSU MKII was demoted to Gbit switch duty.

This thread already contains all of the information that has inspired me. I'm seriously thinking of building an external linear PSU for the 861 using the HDCC-150 as used by Nick.

The aim into have something totally reversible in the event the unit ever needed a trip back to the factory. Replacing the standard mains input back panel with a blank plate fitted with input sockets would be simple enough. Mouser have stock of the HDCC-150 for just over 160 including vat & delivery.

Moving the power supply out of the main case can only help with cooling as well.
Just need to research boxes now laugh
