Do you mean Rogue Amoeba? Yes, they have produced some great stuff sound wise. They've been good innovators, I suspect they'll keep it up. I'm using Airfoil with ControlMac, steaming Sooloos, works great.

A metal grill? Personally, I would keep away from the kitchen if possible, but I know people want music while they cook. Maybe a better fan over the cooktop is really needed

Personally, they can take out the DVD player, put in AirPlay, HDMI, maybe a slightly larger version with more power and a slightly larger bass driver, 24/96 upsampling, apodising filter, and triple buffer, and I guess the Sooloos connection and that should cover it.

I haven't owned an M80 so can't comment on the foibles of it but we are thinking about getting some sounds in the kitchen, so as loyal Meridian owners an M80 / C12 would naturally be high on the list.

Video? Forget it.

Sooloos compatibility? It ranks very highly on here but I'm sure it would be far less important away from HH / Meridian owners although general NAS style ability would be great. Likewise subwoofer out. Likewise the ability to be run in a 3.0 / 3.1 Meridian system. I would guess that facility would be used by < 1% of potential buyers.

Internet radio? Yes please.
Integrated iPod dock? Yes please.
Airplay? Ideally.

I think the F/ M80 did for Meridian what the Evoque is doing for Range Rover; attract a new audience. I understand that 80% of Evoque buyers have never owned a Land Rover car before & 80% of customers are new to SUVs. If that is the target market then Sooloos / sub-out etc will be low on Meridian's list, but if they can be added easily / cheaply then they'd be wise to do so, particularly Sooloos / NAS potential.

A sub out could be added on the F/M80 with a software upgrade very easily.


Change the headphone setting to fixed/variable or sub.

Just mix the channels to mono and/or reduce the output levels to standard line/sub levels.

Have you purchased an alternative to your Meridian kit, or is it a break from hifi for a while?

I just don't really watch films anymore, only occasionally listen to music in the front room and didn't want the clutter of it all any more.

I still love M gear, but only when I am actually using it.

I listen to my iPhone every night with a pair of cheap �80 Sennheiser earphones for probably 3 hours, I listened to maybe 2 hours a week on the M system.
Sat there looking at the best part of �20,000 worth of kit and it made me sick that it wasn't getting used.

The Linn and B&Ws I bought as end of line and paid �700 total. Well happy with that!

I had already sort of down graded back to a 568 and 5000s and still didn't get the use.
Thought I might buy some 7000s for a dedicated room, but been without it for 3 months now and not missed it in the slightest, so probably won't bother now.

To be honest I when the winter comes again I may change my mind. haha

An MC200 for those F80's may get you listening again. I reckon it will be so easy to get a tune in in TV add breaks.

I listen to the M80s all the time, probably a good 6 hours a day, every day.
I just don't listen critically any more.

Music is to be enjoyed IMHO and just being on is enough very often. Critical listening is not required.
Thats why I like the M/F80. You dont need a super wide soundstage and a sweet listening spot, you can just get on with stuff and hear great sounding music.

Idea: What can Meridian do (with funky psycho-acoustic DSP) to make the M80 replacement sound better in an environment with high background noise? e.g. a kitchen.

At the very least, M can do "quiet boost", but there must be other clever things...
