I agree: I'd rather dump the disc spinning capabilities altogether in favour of the sources Ronnie lists. Assuming they don't make it cost 2000 anyway. wink

Well I would want to spin discs.

We have two camps here for a portable device. Perhaps we need two products as well but both basic Sooloos Compatible at least.

Thoughts Chris smile

Well. There is no way you can get rid of all the grease and steam in a kitchen. Use case market research is really important...

Rick

Any more news on this? Any rumour of what made it into the final design?

Personally I would love it to act a Sooloos core. Could then just add an MS600 to a main system for critical listening. I think that is probably wishful thinking though.

I should have pushed Paul from M at the Bristol event of what made it in. He did say it was another 6-9 months away though.

They should put an airplay chip in it, then have them in the Apple stores.

Hi,

Sorry, I've no more info at the minute, they're keeping very tight lipped about it.

I couldn't even tell you if it will include a CD spinner or not!

Certainly nothing imminent.

Cheers,

Rick

After speaking at length with Paul at Bristol, two things that came over crystal clear regarding F80 type device.

1. Meridian are fully aware of the importance of Airplay
2. One of their European (Scandinavia?) distributers have made them fully aware that the vast majority their customers still would find an optical drive of sorts to be very important.

What effect this will have on future products was not said.

Small tit-bit on Airplay, the new Mac OS Mountain Lion has Airplay specified (a specific additional option in the "add" drop down menu) in the Audio Midi setup as an output device. This means you don't need Airfoil. You can then stream any audio playing on the Mac (i.e. from ControlMac) to an airplay enabled device (i.e. M80 replacement). Bingo. Put an Airplay chip on a card for slotting in the 861/818...probably not rocket science.

It's the possibility of seeing them in Apple stores, keep the accountants happy...

I wonder what the delay is like?

I have used airfoil and think it's great, however using music software there is too much of a delay to use it properly.
Hopefully it will be minimal using the in built airplay.

Airfoil makes great products and have been on the cutting edge for Apple innovation for years. I hope they don't get crushed.
