Magnus, is that an onsite charge. What if you took the processor in to them?

I'm actually amazed Meridian feel they can get away with this. The FW corrects a known bug ie Trifield. Maybe the best approach would have been to release 2 versions of the update. Pay for apodizing if needed but make the 'fixes' free. Clearly the mothership are giving the dealers very little guidance on how to handle the roll out of the update, leaving the customer at the mercy of unscrupulous dealers.

Rip off, for something we all know takes 5 minutes.

I'm really disappointed right now.
MagnusB, I'm sorry to hear this. It's the most distressing news I've read on this topic. No reply from my "dealer" yet, but I fear the same fate as I don't have a local "premium partner". If so, it could be the end of the line for me and Meridian. Shame on me for committing to one brand too heavily. I just sold three DSPs to start unwinding my commitment.

That's if I lug it to the shop.
If they visit me I need to pay $50/hour travel time.

Magnus,

I read your PM before your recent posts. What I said in my reply still stands--your dealer is trying to take advantage of your situation, outrageous advantage.

Magnus, I think you should let folks know who that dealer is. M should know as they would never intend the free to issue firmware costing so much in the field. They would surely see the danger in this.

Per DSP $100 ??? It takes about 1-2mins usually to update a DSP. 5x DSP takes about 10 mins. Mention this to your dealer perhaps.

And there will undoubtedly be other dealers out there that can help you.

My dealer contacted me after I left him a voice mail, so I guess news got through to them. He has a busy week, so I think one or 2 weeks from now it will be my turn.

I think that the Meridian 'target' customers these days are those who will not blink at the cost of such upgrades and are not interested in doing such things themselves anyway. Sad, given the original heritage of the company, but I guess it could be argued that the old way of doing business nearly saw the company go under. If the new way sees them in profit and staying there, they have no incentive to think differently. Of course, that may not ulimately be the case.

It's a shame to see a company alienating a band of loyal enthusiasts with whom it used to share a common goal and who's views it used to respect for their dedication.

Apart from the enthusiasts on here, how would the average user get to know about these updates? The typical listener is not on the Meridian website every other day so the only route is from dealer's customer lists.

Has anyone been contacted by their dealer in the past when previous updates were released? Do most dealers have up-to-date searchable lists or will they be relying on the Meridian registered customer list? How many HHers here have been contacted by their dealers (as opposed to contacting them)?

Yes, this is an opportunity for dealers to get in touch with their customers but will the customers happy about this? Apart from enthusiasts, what will the take up rate be?
