I browsed over to the IP address of my MS600 and noticed that in the section for Digital output there are 3 choices (1x, 2x & direct). I don't see the 'direct' choice if I view the Device on the C15. Can someone enlighten me as to what the direct choice does?
Thanks, Reg

Sounds like a new feature.
I can only speculate but I suspect the following:
1x - Force output to be 44K/48K downsample if required. 2x - Force output to be 88K/96K downsample/upsample if required. Direct - Output at the native rate but I guess it would still be capped at 96K.
We have been asking Meridian for this option for years on their processors and more recently on their Sooloos kit.

Hi Carl,
Yes I would guess the same. I've asked for clarification from HQ

I noticed that as well on my MS600. It seems default is 2x since that is what it is on mine and I didn't touch it. Not sure what is the best setting. Any ideas?

The Best setting IMHO is "2x"
This will ensure that CD 16/44 Material is Upsampled and Apodized and then Output as 24/88 material
You get the Sonic benefit of Apodizing..........as well as the Jitter benefit of outputting at the higher Sample Rate, which will halve the amount of Jitter in the Output stream

Well it does seem to sound better on 2x after 2.324 upgrade which I assume is when the 2x option was introduced but I haven't done any testing with the other settings.

Hi Jack The 2x Setting (basically Upsampling and Apodizing) has been on the Control 15 and MS600 Endpoints since they were introduced to the Market last year
Some / many of the older Control:10's did not have Upsampling, so they didn't have this option

Hi All,
From HQ..
X1 no up-sampling (44k or 48k max output rate so will down sample all material to these clock rates)
X2 up sampling (44k -> 88k, 48K -> 96K and then down-sample 192 -> 96K, 176K -> 88K)
Direct (44k output, 48k output, 88k output, 96k output and then 192k & 176k down-sampled to 96K and 88K respectively).
So as we all surmised. Good to have it confirmed though.
Cheers, Rick

Thanks Rick I think it's fair to assume though that even with the "Direct" setting, that 16/44 material will still be Upsampled, RE'd and Apodized internally to 24/88
And that the 24/88 stream will be used to feed the Analog outs on the MS600 and MC200??
But that with the Direct setting engaged, the unit will Downsample to 24/44 at the Digital Output stage
Is that correct, do you think???
