I've bought a 568.2mm from the restaurant, haven't gotten it yet, but I don't think it has the latest firmware. I figured I would have to send it to a Meridian dealer for any upgrade; however I'm told it is user upgradable. If I can do it myself I'll need to borough a PC as I am all Mac. I thought the Legacy came with floppy discs and no laptops use floppies now so it would be nice to have a link for older Legacy upgrade paths and configurations. I could find nothing on Meridians site. Thanks

Hi,
To get the legacy config program; go to the Meridian Software Site and download the common installer. With that installed you can then select the legacy config program and download / install it.
The free upgrade folk are talking about, is not a hardware or software upgrade it is just getting the best from what you have by wiring and configuring it to get the optimal from it. BTW: Do you an SPL meter to setup sound levels from your speakers? If not you should get one you will need it.
Also note that although the newer M-Config program does not support the 568 it worth having a play with that too. Just select say a G68D and then add your DSPs. It with show you how to wire them up.

Why is it that there is a 568.2mm for sale on Audiogon that says it has v2.59 firmware loaded on it yet on the Meridian software site it only lists v2.12 as the firmware. How does one get the V2.59, if indeed it exists and what does it add?
Damn, sure wish I had found the Meridian firmware lockout thread before buying the 568.2mm on audiogon. If any kind soul has the latest update please email to me.

Thanks again you guys. I realized when I used the configuration scheme I did not choose "stereo subs".
Now on to the next lesson for a Meridian dummy. Just what is a SPL meter and where is the info to use it correctly as I do not have the Meridian series that has room correction?
I assume this is a Radio Shack item.
Thanks. Sometimes I wonder why the hell I didn't just buy a rotel receiver and some decent B&W's. This Meridian DSP stuff is for FANATICS!! Then again, when my system was up and running years back the Trifield REALLY sounded sweet.

It's worth pushing through the pain barrier with this, honestly!
The SPL meter is just a sound level meter. It doesn't connect to anything in your system, you just use it to measure and adjust the level of each channel when you put the processor in to calibration mode.
The idea is to set every channel so that the level of sound which reaches your seated listening position is the same across L/C/R/RR/RL and each sub. The Radio Shack models are fine, I use the digital display version. Cheap to buy, and does the job.
Did you get the firmware through ok?
Cheers, George

Hi Bayetta,
Let me try to put your mind a bit at ease from a fellow non-techie who is often totally confused by the level of sophistication of others on this forum. If you set up the configuration program properly, which is not hard to do as proven by myself, you are 95% of the way to getting your system optimized. With the subs set properly I bet that you will hear an appreciable improvement and the set up is not really any more difficult than a Rotel receiver and passive speakers. I say this from personal experience as this is the route I took. And the benefits are truly outstanding.
The SPL and room corrections and all that stuff is in the configuration program to tweak the last 5% out of your system. To put it in context I haven't bothered with either yet with my latest processor change because my wife said that last time there was no audible difference.

Hi Dolf,
But we not talking about Meridian Room Correction (MRC) here [the 568 does not support it] we are just discussing using a Sound Pressure Meter to setup the SPL for each speaker during initial calibration.

Hi Carl,
Yes, sorry I was generalizing and overgeneralized.
I was just walking in his shoes and empathize with how easy it is to get overwhelmed with the incredible sophisticated level of knowledge on this forum, when in fact in hindsight it is possible for Bayetta to get an appreciable improvement just with a 30 minute playing on the configuration program and not even having to touch any gadgets like a SPL meter.

I have not tried the update yet. Still waiting on delivery of 568.2mm. Just playing around with the config program. Still have my 568.1 so I'm just getting my ducks in order.
