Today I updated my iPad and iPhone online. Nice and easy. When I had finished the online updates I used my iPad to write an email to the dealer far from where I live that my order for DSP3200s is on hold till this incredibly stupid action towards innocent Meridian owners is back to normal. I own a number of M products among others a very good 568.2 still running on beta release f/w, an old 561 that never got to support DVD-A etc. Meridian these days is being run with amazing stupidity and arrogance - firmware updates done by dealers just ends this relation for me :-(

Could you please add me to your email list for firmware updates for G68, as I have no dealer.

Thanks.

It made a significant improvement in the 568.2. Top to bottom improvement! No loss or change in frequency response either. Very nice indeed.

I wonder if Eprom's for older products would be made available from dealers for a fee? A sale is a sale.......

I'll be very surprised if even a 568.2 gets new firmware and if it does it will probably only be a Trifield fix.

Anything with EProms doesn't upsample and wouldn't be capable any way.

Even 24/96 7000,6000,5500,5000 doesn't appear to upsample.

I think going through the dealers is a horribly bad idea. I would like to know (maybe this should be a poll question) how many people have gone to a Meridian dealership and known more about the products than the salespeople? I have found this to be the case on many occasions. It also omits people who don't have the convenience of a local dealer.

What happens when you take your product in for an upgrade and someone screws it up? I've done all of the upgrades on my system myself, and would prefer to continue doing it that way.

Meridian vs Denon

I have both the 861v6 (I've had Meridian since 568 was realeased), Denon AVP-A1HD & Denon AVR-A100. If I run into a problem, a glitch or an improvment idea to denon I can e-mail them (Jeff Talmage) He comes back with an response in a day at the most and firmware update in a couple of weeks downloadabel directly to my processors - yes with warnings and yes the recommend not using the wirless but hardwire the processor.

Before untill 1,5 year ago Meridian with Dave Hall answered all my questions, but if I now send a mail to Edd or Des I'm lucky if I even get an answer.

And faulty products is always my fault:
861v6 came with loose components inside, had to fix that myself.
HD621 had dropouts both with my 861v4 (all analog) & 861v6 (all digital) Meridian said that there were no faulty HD621s and that it was my setup (I had to try a lot of HDMI cables and players same problem) after ONE YEAR they said that they had a similar problem with 861v6 and ID40 card so I had to move the comms card to slot 26. Did'nt do anything. By chance my dealer had HD621 that had been tested by a custumer so I took that home all problems were gone.
Ups it was my HD621 was faulty. I returned the faulty one.

My DSP7200 midrange was fitted with it's cable almost ripped of between the cabinet and the speaker, had to be recut and soldered.
My first 8000.2 came with a display that would not display the first letters and poor paint and wax job.
The second 8000.2 the soldering on the DSP board loosend and had to be resoldered twice.
My dealer is great and doing what he can, but he has only been at my home for the first time last autumn when I got my faulty 8000.2.

I hope that at least I get to have the software myself (setup and update wise) and not have to wait for or take it to my dealer.
I've bought a laptop that is only being used with my Meridian setup, since my dealer once had a virus that killed a lot of 800's, I prefer that my baby's are handled by ME.

Thanks to this community I've learnd a lot that Meridian user manuals never said or my dealer didn't even know.

Thanks,
PerS

Denon will not use their own code for DD and DTS (in all their flavours)
There will be a chip doing the decoding, and they only have to route the signal into and out of the chip.

That is completely different than a self written algoritm on a generic purpose DSP that Meridian uses for Trifield.

Jaco,
I think the point was that Denon responds with fixes and directly with the customer in a timely fashion. Like Meridian used to do when they were a customer driven company. Now they couldn't care less about what we find that doesn't work. You have to beat them over the head with a stick for several years for them to agree that Trifield width is broken. Which makes me wonder if they ever listen to there products any more. Pathetic that it took them 5 years to realize it was broken. Pathetic that it is still not fixed.

Perhaps people did not complain enough via dealers for Trifield?
It was constantly mentioned on this forum for a number of years.
However, perhaps if there was no message via the dealer network coming in, M finds it of less importance?
