Now that you've taken the plunge with the laptop, you'd be best to do a full firmware update to the most recent official version (with the mfp file) and then go back and reapply the apodising mfu file. We don't know what changes were made to the other mfu files over time, so having one up to date and the rest several versions old strikes me as a bad thing.

Erwin, you have obviously done a brilliant job and put Meridian to shame.

You also seem to be exposing some of Meridian's secrets.

When apodising was originally debated, VK speculated that Meridian had "deliberately crippled" some of the applications so that the reference kit would sound best and justify a premium (which actually seems fair commercial behaviour).

We also learned, or so we thought, that the optimum application required the most processing power. This made it all the more surprising when extra MIPS were not added to the 808.3 or the 861v6 (or even BIPS).

And then Meridian offered free appodising to "old" 5k2s but not 8ks.

What is going on here?

New Management: What do mean you updated the 5200's for free?
Bob: We released new firmware to our loyal customers to improve the 5200's.
New Management: Did we make money?
Bob: No, but we'll retain loyal customers for the future sales and reputation of upgradable products.
New Management: Don't do that again.
Bob: Sure, what do I tell customers when they ask about 8K's and 861 and other products I said would get upgraded?
New Management: Tell them it's "in the works". They will eventually stop asking. How's that car radio coming?

If you are running old G68 firmware; update to the latest, I strongly recommend that you start afresh with a new MConfig file.

Just curious, why does the 568.1 firmware not get updated by apoupdate, but the 568.2 does? Is this due to the fact that the 568.2 DSP setup is largely the same as the G68?

I thought the original 568 didn't have enough processing power to upsample ?

It can upsample the front three channels, but not the rears.

Couldn't find a response to George's question. Do the settings get retained in the G68, or does it need retyping and MConfig settings applied? It's been ages... I can't remember.

Does the Mconfig Fetch settings work reliably now? I've lost my config settings due to a NAS failure.

The 568.1 does not have the compatible upsample filter in its firmware. Maybe it upsamples in hardware or is using a different method or different filter.

Fetch Settings always has worked.

What doesn't work and still doesn't is Fetching MRC MEASUREMENT DATA.

You can fetch and restore filters.

But if you didn't save the an MCOnfig file with Measurement data you cannot generate new filters from an existing measurement. For example you can't change your Target Decay and generate a new profile.

That said, it's better to make adjustments on the PC and push them to the Preamp. Even if you don't use MRC or don't care about losing measurement data.

You can apply the apo patch without changing anything else. But it's highly recommended you have the latest firmware flashed first.
