Man the longer I listen the better it sounds. My amps are warming up and my SB is warming up more too. Something is changing. Wow this is a huge difference for me.
And I am not even drinking! Ha!

This may be a silly question, but would you need to do that with an 861v6 and an HD621 in front of them in the chain which, I guess, are already apodising? (Trying to improve my knowledge / understanding with this Q, as much as anything).

Duncan Actually in few cases, even with 861v6, HD621 and 8000.1's it would be worth while upgrading 8000.1's. Because when you watch lossy movies DD/DTS the HD621 bypasses and 861v6 ONLY decodes (believe it or not). If you Decode lossy DD/DTS before HD621 then the patch will make no difference to 8000.1's and the HD621 will upsample/apodize. So the only "upsample" in the Chain is the 8K's so they would take on apodizing duties if they can apodize. The 5500's never upsampled so they cannot use the patch. Only devices in Erwin's list.

I think it's unlikely Duncan. The 1x sample rate DACs in your 5ks use linear phase low-pass filters and there will be ringing generated in the DACs; there's nothing you can do about this, but it doesn't make you speakers bad overnight!
2x sample rate DSP or analogue speakers are needed to take advantage of apodizing. Is this why DSP33s are not on the list?
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

The G91 only up samples when in stereo configuration and not when in surround configuration.
Does the apodising update affect all configurations available in the G91?

The G91 only up samples when in stereo configuration and not when in surround configuration. Does the apodising update affect all configurations available in the G91? The G91 has an upsample filter in both the core firmware and the DVD firmware, so if you update both, then apodizing should effect all configs that had upsampling before.

No. The DSP33 does not have the upsample filter in its firmware. So either it does not upsample at all, or it does upsampling in hardware. I'm pretty sure the DSP33s do not upsample; but they have 24/96 DACs of course.

I think, I once read that some devices do better Apodising due to stronger DSP chips.
The only device usefull to upgrade for me would be the 800v3 I think. My speaker do Apodising themselves (front) and besides that they receive upsampled audio from my 861v6.

Wow, this is pretty impressive. Nice job!
One question, though, about 800. As far as I can see, the firmware for 800 is not available on the Meridian website due to the uppdate being (presumably) complex and requiring uploads to two ports (?). Is there a place to find the firmware, and instructions oh how to flash the two ports?
Robert, I'm curious how you did your 800v3? I have the v4.
Thx!
Simon

Robert, I'm curious how you did your 800v3? I have the v4. He (took a huge risk and) used the firmware for the v4. Only the core firmware (800_272.mfu) is needed.
