It's an interesting and informative video clip, I don't understand why Meridian don't Market more of there technical abilities.
There are three boards in the video clip.
Board #1: Control:10 Original Design for Sooloos - No upsampling, SPDIF from PC mother board. Board #2: Control:10 Meridian DSP Hybrid - Upsampling only, USB audio from PC mother board. Board #2: Control 15 Meridian XMOS DSP - Upsamping and apodising, USB audio from PC mother board (Note: no external audio in connections)
On the third board, as used in the C15, the external audio in phono connections are not fitted. Look for the gap on the right hand side (as viewed in the video) where the connector would be if fitted.
FYI, apple is developing the specs for the next rev of AppleTV and some are predicting 1080p, not sure as to the level of audio, but hopefully they'll pass through DTS HD master and trueHD audio. I guess apple is predicting that people will be renting/streaming movies rather than buying Bluray discs.

I've read Engadget's "predictions" / insider info for the iPad2, iPhone 5 and Apple TV-2 improved........
However, compare the following before expecting Bluray Video and Audio Quality from Apple and the TV-2
TOTAL BITRATE Apple TV.............4,200kbps approx Bluray................40,000kbps
AUDIO BITRATE Apple TV..............384kbps Bluray................4,600 to 6,500kbps
MOVIE SIZE Apple TV...........4Gb max for a two hour movie Bluray................40-50Gb for a two hour movie
So, whatever about changing the specs on the Apple TV, delivering those 10x Bitrates and Movie Sizes down today's Broadband Pipes will be very, very difficult.........even in those areas with Fibre based delivery mechanisms
Yes, currently apple is only giving 720p with AC-3, which explains their current specs. I know in my area, Fiber is going to up to 50Mbps. the local Verizon tech guy told me that they are getting 17mbps over their cell network, which is pretty fast for a cell phone and portable devices. but Fiber is getting faster in certain areas. Plus, if people download it first and watch later, all that matters is how fast it takes to download, which may take a few minutes, then you watch it later. Apple seems to advance their products once a year, so it will be interesting to see what they announce later this year.

In Australia, we've started the NBN (National Broadband Network) roll out. It is fibre to the home and it promises speeds of 100mb. The only problem, the roll out is so political, it will likely be ten years before it is completed. This will be a game changer for how Australian's access digital media.
