As far as I can see I can only change these things through the Config programme. True, or have I missed something?

You've missed something.

Function + arrow keys. Change it as you listen and you hear the effects immediately. Press Store when you are done. [/quote]
Many thanks.

Disagree about the "store" part. Write the value down, then go to computer and set that value in Mconfig. Then download config to g68.

If you don't you'll lose the setting next time you use Mconfig.

If you don't use Mconfig then store is the only way.

I set many parameters this way, because it's a bad idea to "fetch" config from g68.

Yes, "Fetch" is so poorly implemented that it efffectively does not work!

OK...let's be absolutely clear

If you don't press STORE then any tweak you have made will be lost as soon as you press an input selector button. This can be frustrating if you are building cumulative changes.

Ultimately when you have settled on the profile you like then write it into your config file so that it becomes the default.

You would only be changing the centre volume for the Trifield DSP mode. I wouldn't have thought you would normally be using Trifield to watch an action movie. Or would you ................... ?

Yes. But your previous post said he was "Done" after the STORE. smile That's only the first step, well second and didn't want to mislead him.

I tend to tweak one thing at time. Different strokes for different folks. I often tweak a parameter and then intentionally never store it so I can snap back to my orginal "reference" settings. I change things very cautiously, very slowly. Let's say I'm on X. And I want to try X + .1. I set that and listen. Then I switch source to purposely lose that setting and listen again to what I started with (my reference). Then apply X + .1 again and listen. Then reset again and try say X + .2. I never store. The only thing ever "STORE" goes directly in my MConfig because once I'm certain I want something I put in MConfig and save it there so that time consuming work is never lost. I can also label that file as "X + .2" to track it.

There is nothing wrong with your method either. But I just feel blind and unsafe using "STORE". I also don't actually write it down bacause I only do one parameter at a time. It goes directly from G68 display to MConfig on laptop.

By the way you can fetch, but just don't save it as your new "Master Copy".

Exactly. This is ONLY for Trifield Music Preset adjustment. There is no center CHANNEL. The phantom center info is coming out all 3 fronts to different degrees (that we have no width control over). But by adjusting center level you have SOME control and your not going to lose vocals or something, it's just a tweak. Especially if you already feel center is to over powering the phantom content due to lack of width control.

Lowering Center, IN Trifield ONLY, also so happens to reduce the RARE potential to clip the center in Trifield when using the +3dB Tweak. And the +3dB Tweak will not clip the center on movies so it can remain at 0dB full scale (+3dB).

I have all my DSP modes set to Trifield for 2ch Music and all 2ch Movie set to PLII Movie. I therefore assume that all my cable TV watching is with Trifield as are all my standard DVD's.

No, No, No !!

Most Cable TV these days is DD (5.1).

So my TV will default MulitChannel/Movie for TV to Cinema and that's what it shows 99% of the time. For 2 Channel/Movie I default to PL II Movie. It also has Music modes but Preamp doesn't really know if I'm watching a Movie or a Consert. So I default those for TV to Cimema and PL II. These are just defaults for that source.

On DVD/Blu-Ray I think there is meta data that can differentiate the SAME format data if it's sending a Movie or Music. I rarely depend on it. I use Phantoms to control it. I rarely use a Source for multiple purposes. TV/Blu-Ray is always Movie and 99.9% MultiChannel. Transporter is Music 100% of the time and may be 2-Channel or MultiChannel so everything defaults to Music Presets (for Movie or Music, 2-Channel or MultiChannel) on the transporter.

You should not use Trifield on the TV for much of anything. If that is displaying when watching TV, you have multiple setup issues IMHO, and possibly crappy cable service only sending 2-channel.

Roughly, these days

DVD should show Cinema
TV should show Cinema (PL II Movie on occasion depends on cable company)
Blu-Ray should show Cinema
2-Channel Music Server should show Trifield

Obviously everyone has their own tastes, but I wouldn't have thought that Trifield would make for the best TV watching for non-music. No reason not to have DPL2 or TV Logic for cable TV and DVD's surely?

I make and name my own presets based on Trifield for the individual source.

So my Radio source is named DABRadio (A Tag Not otherwise available on 565) For 2 Chanel Music on TV, I have called It Joolz (After Joolz Holland) Thats a good show to enjoy.
Squeezebox is called Logitech and so forth.
It works for me and informs SWMBO whats going on.

Thoughts, Chris smile
