Thats an interesting observation, Rod. I have to say that, for me, Trifield is still way ahead of vanilla stereo even without the 'width' fix.

I agree with Rodders that Trifield is too center heavy, so a working width parameter would be very helpful.

Centre is too much for me also as a default setting. The only thing to tame it when width doesn't work is level but that is not ideal.

Happy to confirm that it does work on the 861v6. An the difference is huge....confirms what my memory of it always was. Is not a subtle difference.

Thanks for the confirmation that's back working on the 86v6

All the more strange then that it's still not working on Rod's G61SL???

FWIW, I also don't like what Trifield does on about 70% of my CD's and as a result stopped using it years ago on those CD's. And that was when using Three identical Vertical front speakers

Cabled direct to D2 on the Front Pair instead

Will be interesting to see if it gets back to my memory of using Trifield on a 568 many years ago

Try just lowering center a few DB in the Trifield preset. It has a similar effect as a working width.

But if you do this do you not also reduce the center volume with the TV input so it is harder for an old guy like me to hear the voices in the midst of the car chases?

Playing with center Depth and level etc is critical to fine tune Trifield IMHO.
You will find a setting where it just Pops in place and you never go back.
Just my experiance with my kit. Chris smile

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

I do not think that is really the same. The width control determines the amount of 'surround signal' (out-of-phase signal, L-R from the original signal) is mixed into the left and right speaker signal. Lowering the volume of the center speaker changes the amount of 'main signal' (in-phase signal, L+R of the input signal) in the center. Although the total signal balance is similar, the signal balance between the speakers is quite different.

As far as I can see I can only change these things through the Config programme. True, or have I missed something?

It's not the same but it can help. Try it. It only takes a bit.

You've missed something.

Function + arrow keys. Change it as you listen and you hear the effects immediately. Press Store when you are done.
