Rolski,
Thanks for the room dimensions. Assuming your speakers are tucked in the corner as you indicated, it might be very helpful if you could move your couch 60 to 120 cm toward the front wall. It will get your head farther away from the back wall which can help with the bass response among other acoustical issues you're probably dealing with.
The height of your ceiling and the "flimsy" doorways work to your advantage in allowing energy to escape or diffuse.
Simply try putting a chair between 305 cm and 365 cm from your front wall and listen before you ask if you can move the couch.
Regards, Bill

Have you done a quick modal calculation - probably showing a 36Hz room mode about two-thirds of the way down the length ? I had someone perform an analysis a few years ago but I forget / can't find the results ! Oh, and as for "asking" if I can move the couch, no worries there as I'm still currently the (sole) master of the "house" & the budget - hence the upgrades (!), although the new girlfriend might think I'm a little weird if I start re-arranging the room ! Things are a little boomy at the moment as I'm struggling with a loan Rotel processor which has no EQ - my TMA processor is currently terminally ill on the bench of a repairer so I'm hoping that the 861v6 will be able to calm the major modes as well as my TM_REQ used to do. Also, on the side walls, I've treated the first reflection points with foam, but there's no other treatment in the room as it's actually exceptionally "busy" with very few reflective surfaces at all. Will try your proposal & get back to you - thanks again !

I think you are going to have very good luck with the 861v6. Make sure you run the room correction as described here in the wiki. You don't have a lot of modal overlap. I look forward to following your progress.

Rolski: if you can fit 7200s in your room chances are you can fit the 8Ks. My final bit of advice: a pair of 8Ks when you can afford them is better than pair of 7200s + 7200HC. Best to buy best incrementally and then add the HC then to settle. I would never buy the 861 ahead of 8Ks rather i'd get 8Ks and a g68 but that's just me. Speakers are always first in my book.
Good luck to you whatever you choose.

Right, am going to have a lay-down on aforesaid sofa in shock at the vs price differences !!!! Welcome to the German Meridian club - I wonder how many of us there are? One has to be careful with the German distributor's pricing. HD621 is much more than in the UK, but on the other hand, Sooloos seems to be pretty much the same price last time I checked. This seems quite conscious: an HD621 is a sure sell to people who have bought into Meridian already and need it for BD or other purposes, so they can fleece us. Whereas Sooloos is something they are pushing hard, so the pricing is more competitive.

Nic, Thanks, I think you're right - unfortunately ! Let's see how this develops over the next month or so : if I do finally decide to buy into DSP speakers then a van & a ferry ticket, or paying for a courier looks much more enticing than some of the prices I've been quoted so far....

I don't think much is going to change. The only thing which changes is the Euro/Pound exchange rate, but that is usually necessarily reflected in the pricing from the distributor. 6 months ago the pound was weaker and it was a real bargain for us earning Euros to buy from the UK. Now the gap has closed a bit, which doesn't help you I'm afraid. If by any chance you are a professional musician or sound person then you can get the MwSt back if you buy in Germany, but not if you buy in the UK. That also makes a difference for some of us.

Speakers are always first in my book. Speakers are always last for me when system building, a good speaker just lets more of the sound through, however, in the case of Meridian it is so much more than a speaker, it is the DAC, pre amp, amplifiers and the speaker, it is virtually the whole system.
No Darling, I've had it months!

Precisely. Ergo get rid of everything to get the 8Ks then build from there.

However he does keep saying that he can't afford the 8k's so I suspect it's moot, no matter how good they are.

OK, ok, I'm hearing you all - but so far only 1 person's tried to explain why the 8k's would be better than 7.2k's and a sub (or two) in a 3.5*5.0m room !
