As I stated in my earlier post, I see this as a living room device, so I won't be getting the 3G model. My other half is interested in using it for educational purposes and may be able to expense one so she might want 3G connectivity. I'm undecided on how much memory to get. I won't be using it as an iPod (got an iPhone for that), but if it can't access my photos on a server, I may need some extra storage to have my photos on it. Hi Joel, you are churning out some fine posts of late. Not enough cyber trouble to keep you busy I'm not in ops or research I absolutely agree that Crestron and AMX should be very worried- this is a better touch panel than they sell for many times the price. If I was the CEO of Crestron or AMX, I'd view it as an opportunity. Sure you'd lose sales on your own panels, but I can envisage very cool Crestron and AMX iPad apps which communicate with their other kit (e.g. the RS232 interfaces). I'm not sure about the camera. I certainly wouldn't use one as the iPad is just too big. (For the Brits on the forum, there have been some amusing jokes about the iPad being a great Dom Jolly prop.) A camera would be good for video conferencing, but someone made a good point on that BBC page that we've had videophone capability for decades and yet, when it boils down to it, most people don't like being on camera. Thanks for this info. Makes perfect sense. OS 4.0 may well make it on to the iPad, if not iPad v2 (the one with wings ). Again, v. interesting. Finally while this is all interesting, how is this any more relevant to our discussion of things Meridian than our auto thread? I think this is relevant because the iPad is a genuine alternative to the Sooloos Control:10, as well as being the front end for at least three (I think) other server solutions. why would the discussion of autos be off limits, especially on the eve of Meridian doing its first (that I am aware of) in car audio system. This site is not about cars, but I've no objection to a discussion of Meridian's ICE system when we know more about it.

Well, I suppose you could say that this site is not about Apple either.
The fact is, these posts about i-Stuff just reflect the interests of the posters. If some of us are interested in cars then, why not?
I know that Jerry and I are carping on about this but I think that we are gently trying to say "why worry". It won't turn into Top Gear.

...I just installed the Mac Mini Server and plugged it into the HD621 via HDMI. Fantastic!... Could you detail a bit Arcade please, does the mini DVI or mini DisplayPort carry Audio ? I am using the below device that combines toslink optical audio and the DisplayPort video: http://bit.ly/8srxktIt works as advertised - directly into the HD621.

I'm not sure about the camera. I certainly wouldn't use one as the iPad is just too big. I do use the camera on my iMac, as Delicious Library (great programme, by the way) uses the camera to scan barcodes of books, DVDs, etc rather than needing to key in the numbers.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Finally while this is all interesting, how is this any more relevant to our discussion of things Meridian than our auto thread? I understand that upset some people and I felt it was a fun diversion. I don't mind discussing things technical but I aside from controlling our Meridian gear, I don't see how the iPad or phone or anything else Apple is truly germane to our discussion, unless our discussion is actually more open and then why would the discussion of autos be off limits, especially on the eve of Meridian doing its first (that I am aware of) in car audio system. I don't mind you discussing cars in a car thread. But you discussed cars in a "Is Meridian worth the money" thread. This is a thread specifically about the iPad. I don't mean to be unfriendly or overly-solemn but just to answer your point

i Pads, The Opium of the people........:)
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Well, the previous locked post about cars was titled "Way OT- What car(s) do you chose?" Specific enough to give you some idea of the contents I would think?
It won't turn into a car forum because we all know it's OT and a bit of fun and was specifically referred to as such.
I don't actually want all the talk about operating Squeezboxes from I-phones and suchlike banned or locked but the logic that these Meridian irrelevancies are OK is a bit hazy.

I have been looking for an elegant way to control my Sonos music system and Meridian DSP speakers in my living room. I also use an eBook reader, so if I could combine the use of all three into a single device, it would eliminate the coffee table clutter in our otherwise very uncluttered home.
With the "RedEye" hardware and software for iPhone now available, I plan to use an iPad as my Sonos user interface (app already available), Meridian remote (using RedEye) and eBook Reader (native to the iPad), combining all 3 devices (Sonos controller, MSR and Sony Reader). I see no cleaner way to do this (and it easily justifies the iPad).
Having spent the morning researching the best way to do this, I thought I'd share these thoughts with the group here.
Main system: Cable, Apple TV, HD621, G68D, AC11, 218, DSP7200SE (L+R), DSP3200 (L+R Rear) 2nd system: Cable, Apple TV, MC200, HD621, 568.2, M3100 (L+R)

I love the look of the iPad, however I don't think it will be any good as an eReader. Only thing I don't like is there is no tethering, this means I pay 15 a month to allow my iPhone to tether and now there is a device where I will really take advantage it won't work.
No Darling, I've had it months!

I guess if the data is only 15 a month I will just swap that over and no longer bother with tethering on the phone.
