Smell?

Actually, what I want to clarify is the apodiZing filters on the 808.3, and throughout the Meridian product line.

According to the Meridian Jan. 7 press release: "like the 808.2 before it, 808.3 employs Meridian`s proprietary DSP based ‘apodising` up-sampling system."
This sounds like that aspect is unchanged; it certainly doesn't sound like "better filters" (or one would think they would have mentioned it). Can you elaborate on what has changed in the filtering?

Also, the DSP8000 (and DSP7200) Data Sheets on Meridian's site refer to the speakers including the "new digital upsampling filter system". Is the filtering the same as in the 808.3 (or 808.2)? If not, how is it different?

Finally, how does one best use a phono preamp with the DSP speakers? It seems counter-productive (and sound degrading) to convert A/D in the 808, and then back to D/A in the speakers. Is there some way to go straight analogue from the phono to the amplifiers in the DSPs (which are analogue, after all).

Thanks!
