Given the .2 is barely a year old, I think the price would have to be quite attractive given anyone's large (and recent) investment in a .2.
Basically I agree but there is a need to consider the following.

1. You have or will have Sooloos and therefore benefit from integrating 808.3 with Sooloos.
2. You will have 861 v6 with the ID 40 Soooloos card that will also give, eg, Trifield output from the 808.2.
3. If the upgrade offer for a limited time.

I know that this is what Meridian have said, but I have to say that with the well known Jitter inducing effect that the SPDIF Interface introduces, that this new introduction of yet another SPDIF Interface at each of the 6 or 8 speakers is undesirable at best

Yes, the DSP's have their own FIFO Buffers, but by Meridian's own admission, this FIFO Buffering is much less capable than that in the processors and players

As a result, I really do hope that the new 861v6 will allow the continued use of the IE42 SPDIF Speaker Output Card along with the already discussed new cards

It sure is

That's what I get for typing too quickly

Point about all the extra SPIDIF Interfaces at each speaker still stands though

My English might be too bad to understand it completely.

The 861v6 will not be able to use old cards (as far as the rumours are true) since it is built up different.

It would be much more simple for the support from M to just offer a standard unit, with no extra (old) cards.

The program will be for a limited time, but it will be on the order of months, not weeks, so no worries.

Everyone --

I've been getting a lot of questions about what's being replaced in a v6 versus v4. Again, this is not an upgrade, it's a trade-in. The v6 will be a completely new unit, from the ground up. The chassis is new, the cards are new, the power supply is new, and it even has that new Meridian smell.

Old cards will not work in the new unit, and the new unit will come standard with everything most people will need.

The analogue input card is completely redesigned and is 24/96 of single-ended goodness. That 0.25 for those who prefer their quantization in decimal.

Apodizing filters (or "apodising" for those blokes beyond the pond) are better than what was in the 808.2.

The new unit supports all the old SPDIF coax inputs as well as SpeakerLink and MMHR (8-channel discrete digital). It will also have a complete set of SpeakerLink outputs and balanced analogue outputs.

In short, it's not your father's 861. It's a huge improvement over v4 and a new platform for moving forward.

Michael

Do you know if the DSP processors are the same or have m moved to a new processor architecture such as cell?

I hope this information isn't 100%...

With an all DSP - but old SPDIF connections and no peakerlink - the quoted trade-in to speakerlink and Balanced Analogue outs makes no sense for me. I definitely don't need the analogue outs and will have to purchase 3 AC12s (and one or more new main distribution blocks to plug everything into).

What's the point of a modular system and then pre-defining the configuration?

I'm hoping it will be possible to configure the new 861 to match my actual requirements.

Unfortunately there have been so many announcements in recent days which seem to be contradictory (I'll let you construct your own list but I can think of at least 3). I think until Meridian actually publish a statement and deliver the new items and upgrades/trade-ins we are still dealing with speculation no matter how certain everyone is of their information.

2 cents

Chris

Yeah I think there would be trade-in for base 861v6 and appropriate trade-in for add-on cards-anyway we should know soon smile

I had questions regarding OA08/OA18-- are they using new DAC Chips (BB DACs or Wolfson etc). Any info on analog-out cards?

Cheers,
Kishore

Can anyone tell me why MMHR is not included in the new G68. It seems like a huge omission. I thought they were moving to cat6 across the board. I mean, why go through all this trouble with excluding digital outs for existing DSP speakers to move to cat5 and on the input side you skip it and say, - Hey keep your 3xSPDIF???!

It makes absolutely no sense!

This will just grief the existing customerbase, which I thought was important in these times!?
