I guess this post is what you can't copy:

Dennis Erskine:
1. Yes.

2. Yes. Improved and based upon the 808.3 CD player.

Also, a new clocking system

1. Yes.

If true, isn't this the answer for some of us?

How an answer couldt be yes, when there are 3 possibilities??????
Means yes to all?
And which sendse is to have apodizing on the INPUT of the 861???
It should be at the output-means the 861 malkes the apdozing prozess.
Need some light to understand that...

I have an appointment with Ken Forsythe on Saturday morning at which time I can discuss with him the details relating to Meridian's press releases. However, I had a chance to stop by Meridian's rooms yesterday afternoon to speak briefly with Ken and to look at the new 861, G68 and G61R. Many of your questions will be answered by looking at the backs of the processors I have linked below, but I wanted to make a few comments.

According the Ken: "We had a monumental moment of clarity - Meridian is a DSP loudspeaker company." According to Ken, all of the DVD players, including the 800, have been discontinued and the resources reallocated to the development of Sooloos. The only disc spinners Meridian will make going forward are the G08 and the 808. Three processors are in the lineup - 861, G68 and G61R. All have apodizing. I am not sure if there will be a one-box offering. Loudspeakers include the DSP3100, DSP5200, DSP7200 and DSP8000. All have apodizing except the DSP3100.

The G61R and the G68 do not have an MMHR or 4xSPDIF input for 7.1 discrete. The 861 has an MMHR input for connection to the HD621. The G61R has all single-ended analog outputs. The G68 has eight balanced outputs and two single ended outputs analog output (Rz and Lz).

More to follow.

Photos of the Rear Panels of the Meridian 61rR, G68 and 861 V6.

Correction: the G61R and G68 do NOT have apodizing. The 861 obviously doesn't have a motherboard. My error completely.

Thanks for the pictures Frank, you are correct they answer so many questions.

The end of DVD support makes sense to me and I look forward to multi-channel HD video support from Sooloos. And focussing on core competency, differentiation and much simplified (read: easier to manufacture, QA and sell) range makes sense to me.

I think the only disappointment for the completist is the missing 8-channel digital input capability for the G61R and G68. I think it is a shame the (presumably) 8-channel MMHR input capability isn't there but then there is always the 861 and they need to have a USP for it.

Nice work Meridian: new products, better products, clear strategic direction, reduced manufacturing costs = desire to survive and prosper.

It's not going to affect me (I have no room for side speakers), but I am very surprised. Unless Meridian has something up its sleeve, this would seem to point to an architectural limitation on the input side of the G68. A bit of a blow for existing owners and Meridian if that is the case, but maybe M is gambling on 7.1 sources not taking off?

Seems from the photo that the IE44 and speakerlink output cards are one integrated unit. Sure seems like the v4 to v6 upgrade is going be be pricey.

The IE 44 sounds like a very useful card to have in a v4 with a HD621 or 808.2. I'm really surprised to see that they share the same back plane, as you note Simon. The info released so far didn't suggest that this pair was conjoined; hopefully versions will be available for individual use in v4s.

Cheers

Another thought about a gap in the product line-up.

What about the two-channel enthusiast who has multiple digital and/or analogue sources? We need a 24/96-capable ADC 562 replacement with speakerlink output.

Sorry about my stupid questions :
For what is a speakerlink input on the 861?(one on the IE44 two are on the ID26
Speakerlink in my understanding is a symetrical digital signal(music) combined with the communication line and the sense is to feed the DSP.So now its a input on a source?...??
And two inputs on a OUTPUT card??

And the standard SPDIF inputs on the IE44 are 6 channel-not 8channels?
Why makes M a 6channel input card and delete his own source for that-the 800???

Please take some light in my confusions..
