FYI - I contacted M about this a week or so ago as it had been subject to a discussion at HH2. I am pretty sure they're looking into it again.

Nick

As we say in engineering, FAD (Functions As Designed). This applies to old and new firmware. Rears are very mild in Trifield but they are quite noticable in what they do. The Width and Depth have no effect on rears and are not supposed too. The parameters for the rears do work in current firmware.

One way to compare them is to configure you setup with no center (for testing only).

Then toggle between Direct and Trifield and you'll hear what Trifield does with rears.

If you still hear no effect then you have a problem with your setup.

Sorry to resurrect this again but I was thinking about how Meridian respond to questions (prompted a bit by the support thread).

At HH2 our query about the Trifield width not working was met by a theoretical resonse that "nothing's changed". IMO, this demonstrates the mindset of Meridian. They are scientists, not engineers, and simply went back to the underlying theory to answer our question.

What you or I might have done is to go into the demo room, listen to the reported effect (or lack of it) and then look into any issues arising.

Does anyone else find this interesting?

I think it's rather embarrassing for M. Meridian is a technically accomplished company with many talented and confident engineers. At times, that confidence appears to border on arrogance, even if that is only my perception.

All good things come to he who waits....just had news from St. Des

Naturally, this is rather embarrassing for us, but we want to be open about it. Ten out of ten to the Hitchhikers who stuck to their guns - we appreciate how infuriating it must have been for them having us tell them their ears are fooling them!

Thankfully, it is relatively easy to fix. The code is modular, so we can drop the correct version into the relevant product firmware bundles. We then just need to adapt the MFP files to encompass the new files and we'll be ready to put the firmware through the (hopefully watertight!) testing process.

In summary, we would like to apologise for the mistake and especially for failing to take any further action following the reassertion from the group. Please treat this as official notification of our acceptance of the error.

Best regards, Des.

Good news I'd say.

Nick

I second that and thanks to Nick for posting it on the forum so promptly.

Exactly, whilst you are there, hows about dropping in Apodizing filters into my 568.2MM?
