Hi,

One of my 208s (in mint cosmetic condition) is beginning to have the mistracking correction lamp flicker & is struggling to play CDs off & on, therefore it probably has the laser on its way out. Also it is fitted with a record deck phono card on the LP input, but using this for the first time, the sound is distorted (doesn’t sound overloaded though).

Is there anyone that repairs this old legacy unit who can give me an idea on cost of replacing the laser & repairing the LP card?

Cheers, Step

I’m waiting on a response from a repair agent to ascertain if my G95 can be resurrected...

The company is JS Audio Repairs - recommended by Meridian Legacy.

Didn't think that JS Audio were willing to touch Meridian kit any more?

Re the phono card, have you checked that it is set to the correct cartridge type? From memory there is a switch on the card itself to change between MM and MC types - it is some years since have looked at the card so could be wrong - worth checking though.

Hi John, Now there’s an interesting idea. I was wondering if the card had a variable input or indeed if there were cards with different input sensitivities. Now I have the challenge of working out how to remove the casing to take a look. The laser seems to have corrected itself from use after being stored for a few months. I will probably still send it off for professional repair as it sounds so good playing CDs still & would be great with a record deck connected for a minimalist system. Regards, Step

If anyone cares to try them, Ian Davies Electronic Services informed me that they are willing to repair anything Meridian.
