Scammers are monitoring this website.

One has tried to scam me on my DSP5000s.

Name of Elizabeth Felicia
Email address feliadex1@yahoo.com

It's the old send you a bigger cheque routine and send me the difference back via Western Union.

Don't waste your time on this individual or hand them any cash.

Hi Colin

These idiots probably picked you up via your ads on hififorsale.com. They regularly try it on with sellers there.

Seems really quite reasonable to me. I've posted you a cheque for half a million and just wondered if you'd give me the difference in cash just before you pay it in. I'll take the D2500 aswell, your car, wife and that jolly nice projector once it's fixed!!!!
Chuck the house in for good measure.

Cheers Paul

It gets better.....eBay has a pair of 8 month old 8000s....a snip at 122......short dated auction, new seller, zero feedback, user ID kept private.......

but the one I like is just down the page from the 8000s.....500 CD player, 562 "control unit for CD player" and theultimate 541 "sauce selector".......

Would Sir prefer Worcester, Tabasco or HP?

Chris

Sauce !!!! That is so funny grin

I'm sure the pic of the 8k's has been used before. Look closely at the power lead in the wall socket. Has been obscured, so, suspect it is not the "8 mth old" UK style plug.

Bargain price though, eh !!!

PS Has anyone had any response from the seller of the 8k's yet?

Hey Guys,

These scams are becoming more and more prevalent of recent, I have been contacted on three occasions within the past 12 days, and twice in December. After checking the senders profiles and feedback, I just pass the eMails on to eBay.

BTW. The 8000's have now disappeared from eBay .... Along with the seller I'll guess.

Do these prospective buyers, who ever they maybe, truly believe that the high value items (such as the 8k's etc.) that are occasionally advertised on eBay, with no reserve, usually no feedback and spurious methods of payment, are genuine auctions.
eBay is no place for the naive.

Rgds .... Holtz'.

Hi, I Bought my 565Z3 from E Bay and I believe I have more that 2% Common sense.
Judge the seller as much as the product.
Dont let Idiots spoil a good system.
The Guy I bought from was as good as gold, we kept in touch by EMail, he had a proper address and was a HiFi Enthusiast with a young family.
Use Common sense which aint so Common it seems.
Cheers and happy bidding, Chris.

Highly suspect 861V4 on eBay: Item #190192273887

This is the second time in the two months since I bought that particular 861 that the photos and ad description have been jacked and then used verbatim in other ads. A UK seller that will only sell to the USA- cute but not so bright... Even more embarrassing is that people appear to be bidding on it! I reported it the first time and eBay did nothing...

Happy Trails!

Another warning. I was just dupped on eBay buying a piece of Meridian gear for several thousand. Turns out that a users account was hijacked, their email redirected and an auction placed. I won and sent funds by check. Two days after I sent the funds eBay removed the listing and only said it was cancelled? No other explanation was given but some calls to tech support and they finally admitted that the account had been stolen and the auction was bogus. A trip to the bank revealed that my check was already cashed.

But, since I sent a check I have the person's name and address. You would think someone would want to know about this crime. The police said it is up to eBay to pursue if they want to report the crime but forget any help from eBay. They just said I can file a complaint with the police and gave some other sites I can register. But essential it was an SOL message and as far as eBay is concerned they don't intend to do anything about it.

Now I certainly take the responsibility for doing the transaction and the consequences but it amazes me that, so far, I cannot get anyone to pursue the individual even though I have a name and address. At this point it is more about stopping the person from doing this again rather than getting my money back.

I guess I need to decide how much work I will put into seeing that the individual who did this is charged but I fear it will be so much effort and nothing will happen. No wonder this problem is so rampent because the individual can be so bold and know that nothing will happen.

I have done over 350 transactions over many years on eBay and many on audiogon with no problem but this has been an eye opener. Yes, in retrospect I could have been more careful but life gets us busy and we sometimes don't pay as much attention as we might have at other times. This was certainly the case here but I have to say that nothing smelled wrong with the deal so that is why I caution everyone.

Don't assume that the eBay person you are dealing with is who they say they are no matter if their feedback is the best on the planet. Ask for a phone number, call them and ask questions designed to flush out fraud. It is not new advice, but worth repeating. I should have followed it.

Hi, welcome to the forum. If you are in the UK this is fraud and the police should take it up.
Go and see your trading standards people or even your MP. Publicity often gets results..........

I know a policeman who in confidance told me that no effort was put into fraud in his area and shortly before retirment he was tasked to clear up a backlog.
The result, he did catch some eBay Scammers who were buying goods, photographing them for sale on eBay. Then taking the goods back for a refund and collecting the cheques. This and other scams.

Kick up a fuss and maybe somone will do what they are paid for.

Good luck with it all, Cheers, Chris smile

Chris,
I live outside San Francisco but thanks for the support and info.

I love this forum. I have been very helpful since I am a recent convert to Meridian kit. I just wish people did not list their gear in the signatures since it makes searching all this good information via google very difficult.

Cheers
Paul

eBay better watch out:

Quote:
PARIS — eBay said it would appeal a French court`s order that it pay 38.6 million euros ($60.8 million) in damages to the French luxury goods company LVMH, the latest round in a long-running legal battle over the sale of counterfeit goods on the Internet.

LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, a maker of high-end goods and fashion and luxury products, successfully challenged eBay for a second time in the French court, arguing that 90 percent of the Louis Vuitton bags and Dior perfumes sold on eBay are fakes.

The court ruled Monday that eBay, which earns a commission on the sales, was not doing enough to stamp out counterfeit sales. The decision, while costly, is unlikely to have a drastic effect on the way eBay conducts business because it has already made changes to police its site for counterfeit goods. As eBay moves to more fixed-price marketplaces, it wants access to brand-name products for the cachet and the revenue those brands can bring.

My replacement G57 for the one struck by lightning a few weeks ago, looks as if it has been stolen while in transit by UPS from Sevenoaks Sound and Vision in Peterborough UK to my house in the South of France. I am waiting to be advised of the serial number and once I receive it, I will post it here. It went astray either in East Midlands Airport or Cologne Airport. Beware if you are buying a nearly new G57 from Germany, the UK or France - it may well be stolen. I am keeping an eye on both eBay and Loot.com.

But that harms the seller who seems blameless in this case. I suggest insurance for eBay buyers for LGB train stuff, but many don't see the need. I bought in 5200s from Audiogon last year and insured the lot through one of the 3rd parties listed in the Wiki. I assume they would insure a shipment from a dealer too...and you could get it through the dealer too.

MC200, 818v3, DSP8000 with SE upgrade, Swallow Acoustics ALS2 analogue speakers, vintage Technics SL10 turntable, and an old, modded Oppo 83 (rarely played).

I would like to provide a heads up regarding a possible scam from eBay seller dealsman3646. He is using my photo of a DSP5000C on the US eBay site without permission. I have reported to eBay, but they don't make the process simple. No wonder so many people complain about scams as it seems they do nothing to prevent them.

Now that we have a photo upload service, should we be using this to post scam pictures? Probably need to watermark it "Scam". As eBay deletes its photos after a while there is no lasting record of photos used by scammers.

I have seen the photo pointed to by MacGuy before.

What do we think of this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Meridian-DSP7200-Black-/220741651519 Genuine or not?

- 3 day auction
- 30 postage
- copy-out of specs from brochure
- no reason given for selling...

Hi Guys,

If you spot a SCAM listing on eBay please report it immediately to eBay, as well as on here.
I've just done it 'again' for the above and it only took 30 secs.

Carl

I am sure police and law enforcement people are busy following much more serious crimes than some dirt bag selling Meridian gear.

If you search for "Meridian a500" in google images, these photos come up about 4th. Last time I sold something and couldn't be bothered to take a photo, this is exactly what i did (though I made sure the photos I took were stock ones form a dealer not an individual).

So, I think he's guilty of nicking the photos but the auction itself doesn't look that fishy to me.

It might help buyers, if listing states photo's are representative of the model and not the condition.

There are always quite a few DSP speakers listed on Craigslist - London. I believe that these are all scams, usually the speakers are in Orkney or even Shetland.

I once asked a fellow Rotarian in Orkney to visit the address given. The residents confirmed the address but claimed to have no idea that they were selling the speakers.

The best way to test these listings is to offer to pay cash on collection. Obviously this doesn't suit scammers, unless they are into battery, and you never hear from them again.

Just googled and they have several bricks and mortar stores, evidently in business for 26 years. Although only 5 of a feedback score, they have an absolute shedload of inventory listed, including some other older DSPs and M33s.

Certainly worth a call if it's new old stock!

Cheers

George

I would say that it's not cheap. I'm not sure whether you get a single speaker for that price or a pair. Maybe only the one as they say they've got 5 of them.

I have purchased several televisions from this dealer through the years. Previously Home Theater Store, & Videoland. Same owner. They were at one time a Meridian dealer and purchase a considerable amount of assets from a bankrupt Phoenix, Az dealer. Had a fallout with Meridian That they have not been able to resolve for several years. Now trying to get rid of the old inventory. I would ask about warranty and get something in writing due to the dispute with Meridian. They are reputable and have serviced all that I have purchased.

DSP7200s on eBay at the moment.
The listing is a direct copy of one on audiogon in the US. The photos are the same, even including the 110v power supply...

Hi Carl,
I have reported it. I have also contacted the Audiogon seller and he has reported it too. Hopefully, it will be pulled soon. When I reported it to eBay, I couldn't find a way of letting them know where the listing had been copied from. Do you know if this can still be done? I knew that you could send a link if the fraudulent seller had copied an eBay listing.
Thanks,
Peter

Hi, No it looks like the eBay report system has changed, as I recall being able to type a short description of the problem.

I can only assume, eBay considered this free format text to time consuming to read, and now have a (semi?)-automated process.

Carl

The DSP7200s seem to have reappeared again on eBay via the same seller.
The 808.3 is also on there too. I'm assuming that this is the same person using two accounts.
I have reported them again.

Hi Martin,
Ha! what a surprise that they said that! I see that both auctions are still running so it will be worth reporting it anyway.

These have been reported several times. If they exist, they are 110v (I suggested the seller put that on the listing, he said he would - he's obviously a bit busy...) as per picture. On eBays head be it.

I'm as sure as I can be that they don't exist! The originals are for sale on Audiogon. eBay seem very unresponsive about dealing with them this time. Hopefully they will pull the auctions before the finish time.

Interesting, the 7200s and the 808 both went to the same bidder, who has no history, mmm. I wonder if the second highest bidder is going to get offered a second chance.

The 7200s have appeared again on eBay. The pictures are the same as before (including the 110V power supply picture). Please can people report them again? eBay did pull the last listing and also the 808.3 just after the auctions finished. Also, eBay seem to act more quickly if the seller won't accept paypal as a payment method (even if it is shown in the listing that they do). It is worth asking the seller a direct question if they will accept paypal and then reporting it to eBay if they don't.
Thanks,
Peter

Postage of 2.99 is pretty competitive.

The fact that the "seller" lists his email address in the advert is enough for eBay to pull the auction. I think avoiding eBay fees is probably the one thing they're most worried about.

eBay - AD88 listing, looks very odd. I told the buyer it looked iffy. He said is was all good, so I tried to make an offer but the seller has blocked me. Now I don't think I upset him, so I can only think it's dodgy. I'll work on my social skills though.

The seller mainly sells low value items, however the are some Russ Andrews items circa 300 a little lower down in the feedback history.

As always buyer beware, but I'd not say it was dodgy.

The real 808.3 is currently listed in the US. The seller over there looks to be the same company that had it for sale on Audiogon.
I have just searched eBay for the dodgy one and can't find it. I assume that eBay has removed it smile

DSP8000's on eBay
Hi All,
There is a pair of DSP8000s on eBay at the moment that are definitely a scam. The original listing is here on Audiogon.
It appears that the UK seller can use photoshop as the voltages have changed in the photos but they haven't been able to slant the text....
I have reported them already but it would be good if you all could report them too.
Thanks,
Peter

Looks a bit questionable too me, seller has zero feedback and it's odd that a UK seller would post on AudioGon.

Hi All,

There are a 861v4 and HD621
combined in one auction from a UK seller on eBay at the moment.

A quick search found the original listing on Audiogon.

Looking through the sellers feedback, they seem to have moved from Essex to Wales since their last sale. I assume that this is to discourage people going to view. Also, they aren't accepting any communication via eBay which is a new one to me. I have reported it and also contacted the original seller. Please can others report it too?

Thanks.

Hi,

Could someone check the serial number SN#D8K200150A, how old is this pair DSP8000 non SpeakerLink?

Does the D8K200150A means it is the first version of 8K's which released on 2001 and this is the #150 pair of 8Ks?

I doubt anyone has a hotline into the serial number database, but if these follow convention, the D8k2 would imply a second revision, the 150 would be a 150'th pair and the A being A of an AB pair.

Hi Albert

My 8ks are roughly 60 pairs 'younger' than the pair you are considering, and date from September 2003, so I'd guess 2003 manufacture for those too.

Cheers

There's something fishy about this ad..

The DSP 6ks have green stickers meaning for UK voltage, if I am correct..

There's a set of DSP5k5s on Craigslist that looks a bit fishy.

Can't quite put my finger on why though...

A week ago there was an eBay.com an auction for a pair of 861v6 and 808.3. Pair closed at approx 9900 USD. I was second bidding and after a day I received a second offer possibility.

Seller had decent feedback on eBay and everything seemed fine, even though I was very skeptical due to the price.

I communicated with him perhaps 20 emails during a few days and after some investigation I was sure this is a scam:

1. No name in any emails
2. I got a telephone number and found on the web that it belongs to a Leo XXXXX. Later he said his name to be Leo YYYYY.
3. No photos of the actual units
4. No address
5. Just an email address xxx@aol.com
6. When I received an invoice to pay, only contact info was an email address. No name, no address, no telephone number...... nothing!
I asked for some proof that he actually has both units, and he refused.

I decided not to pay. As usually is said: What seems to good to be true, most like is a scam.

So folks, be very careful out there! Seller was based in San Diego. Perhaps it was an identity theft while sellers feedback was fine.

I have seen those pictures before. The RED sticker is the US voltage yet the person selling the speakers is in England.
What gives?..

The cable hanging above the speaker in pic 9 is also a US plug. Not the kind of thing you find in Edinburgh very often.

Looks suspicious but if you pay through PayPal and they don't arrive then they will refund you straight away so how can this work?

What you'd do with 115 volt speakers is another matter.

Well... very strange...

The listing (somewhat predictably ) ended early.
However, the seller also listed PRS private stock guitar, which for those of you that know guitars, has a considerable value. Starting price of 500 but certainly worth a few thousand.

I bid but currently the seller has cancelled OVER 40 bids!!

Hmm...

Shame I quite fancied that!

Well spotted George!.
so ...maybe the DSP8000's we're indeed in the USA as well?
Not Edinburgh ...or even Spain, where most of his recent feedback seems to come from!

eBay - 861v4

Whilst the photo in the heading may be of the 861 for sale, the photos in the description are not, as these are identical to photos used by Reuben to sell an 861v4 on HiFi Wigwam.

This is a warning to fellow HH that the cards shown in the description photo may not be the same as in the item for sale. It would be best to check with the seller first.

Hi all,

Just had a really bad experience with darkside2014 on eBay, beware!!

This guy from Barnstable had 3 pieces of Meridian kit up for sale, a 518 processer which I successfully won, a 500 transport and a 566 DAC which other bidders won.

Paid for the item within 24 hours, no communication for over a week on the delivery, which he then apologised for and told me he had despatched. Stil no goods and after raising a case in the resolution centre again apologised profusely and offered me a next delivery if I would still like the item. I agreed and yet again no communication and no goods! A final strongly worded email threatening civil action got me a full refund with no explanation - almost 3 weeks after receiving my payment.

He has then relished all 3 items!!

Not sure what game he is playing, but lets try and keep these idiots off the web. Links below to the current sales:

Meridian 500

Meridian 566

Meridian 518

Thanks

Words fail me with this type of behaviour, well only those that are acceptable.

I suspect the seller didn't get the price they wanted and pulled the auction after close.

Looks like a 'disposable' username to me so the only thing they lost was the listing fee and a bit of time to setup a new username.

Not the way to do things. That's what reserves are for.

yes that's me..

I agree about the price thing, you use eBay and you take your chance and eBay should come down hard on guys like this but never so.

Lets just hope potential sellers make the link and steer clear - he might get 25 if lucky which would be a result...

As the 'buyer', don't forget to report dodgy sellers to eBay as well - do a google search for:

eBay uk report non performing seller

There should be a link in the first few results

You specify the item number, the sellers id, a summary and any headers of any emails they sent (I had to write 'No comms at all' in the email fields)

Had to do this recently, got a reponse back from eBay, so someone looked at it - one benefit is if there is retaliation for bad feedback and an 'unpaid item' report is raised by the 'seller' after they refunded, you get an eBay report number you can send back to eBay to get rid of the problem. (according to the response I got anyway)

Matt.

I made an enquiry against the 566 listed on eBay.

This is the response I got.

The serial number is 566 100621.
I will only accept Paypal and am not prepared to accept collections, sorry.

More alarm bells ringing given they won't accept cash on collection.

Probably better to leave him/her on eBay so everyone can see what they're dealing with. If you boot them out they can rejoin with a clean user name and no one will be any the wiser.

Caveat emptor, I'm afraid.

Well spotted

Need assistance asap please.

Contacted a seller two days ago claiming he has a single DSP5200SL (graphite) he wants to sell me. He sold the other one to another person (time frame unknown to me).

We agreed on pricing and I even called his bank and everything seems to check out.

The seller goes by the name of Lori Guillory (Finnish name?) resides in Baton Rouge Louisiana and claims to be a Finn living in the USA.

To be honest because of his accent/language barrier carrying on a conversation is not easy.

However this morning he sends me an e mail and even phones me claiming the person that bought his other DSP5200 really wanted a pair but because he already sold the other one to me in the mean time he cannot sell him the other! Because I seem to be a nice guy he wants me to have the first crack at buying the pair for $4600 USD but I told him I was not interested and only wanted the one speaker. I told him I would rather cancel the deal and have my deposit sent back to which he answered it's OK I will sell you the one speaker as we had already agreed and I will ship the speaker on Monday.

When we first spoke and agreed to the deal, the remaining DSP5200SL left for sale was the one with the following serial number...D5200-401668B. Now because the other one is available its serial number is D5200-401668A.

What do you guys think?
Are these serial numbers legit?
Are these pictures fake or manipulated in any way?

I already sent him to his bank an electronic wire transfer for part of the purchase because I need the speaker delivered to a location in the USA by next Wednesday (Jan 14th) where I will be for a few days.

With the additional pictures sent to me this morning, I noticed that in the last one showing the boxes you can clearly see the 240 volt rating on it and as we know in the USA it's a 115-120 volts system.

Here's his email to me with pictures and the serial numbers from this morning...

I told him I could not sell the both for him because you already both one and I will still prefer to sell this unit to you because you are so nice and understand.. I return his money back to him and the both pairs are for sale now..

I will like to sell the both for you for $4600 with shipping included..

I sent you pictures of the speaker package and I will like to ship it tomorrow so that you receive it early next week. Hope you understand.. You will have to send me the $1500 and I will get it ship out tomorrow and when you receive the unit you send me the balance.. Hope you understand thanks

Hi Jet Jockey

The email and back story do not fill me with confidence. I'd do all you can to retrieve your deposit and walk away from that one.

Fingers crossed for you.

Note the British power sockets in the background -it is unlikely that the picture was taken in the US.

Also I have worked with many Finns in my time - all speak and write English almost as well as any native English speaker.

Hope this helps you make a decision.

I agree the main pictures are the same, but curiously the serial numbers of the eBay ones are different to those of the Baton Rouge ones (401199A and B).

I'd let the guy wanting the pair buy these if possible. There are other speakers out there.

That's because the numbers on the eBay speakers match the numbers I was given by his friend Scott who claims to reside in Texas.

Scott is the person that originally contacted me and wanted to sell me his pairs of 5200s with the following serial numbers... D5200-401199A/B

When I told him I was only interested in one 5200 he referred me to his friend Lori in Louisiana who apparently had already sold of his other 5200 to another person thus left with only one 5200.

Lori sent me a picture of the rear panel of his left over 5200 with the following number... D5200-401668B.

Today he came back to me and offered the other speaker because the other buyer backed out and that serial number was
D5200-401668A, the matching pair.

All the pictures sent to me were from the same room/house which are the ones on eBay UK.

I'm not holding my breath anymore and I think I'm going to lose my deposit that was sent two days ago via an electronic transfer. I did ask my bank to instigate a "recall" today but that may take several days to happen and if the money is deposited in the account before the recall takes affect I'm well screwed.

I am confused by this confused Hope person(s) who contacted you have positive feedback?

Since you wired the money - there will be a paper trail - I am surprised folks will try to cheat through this.

Hope you get your money back without hassle or else go to the cops.

Well I have been in contact directly with the assistant manager at his bank branch in Baton Rouge.

Even my bank talked to them but unfortunately because of privacy laws they can say much. All I know is the account is currant and belongs to the person involved.

I did talk again today to the assistant manager and fully explained the situation and she said she would contact the internal fraud services about this account but I don't think it's going to help me.

As of now the only recourse I have is through the legal/normal bank channels meaning my bank in Montreal must request a formal "recall" of the electronic wire transfer to its head office in Toronto which in turn will submit this "recall" to Chase's HQ most likely in NYC which will then transfer the demand for this "recall" to the branch in Baton Rouge.

The problem is the wired transfer was sent on the 06th and it may take 2 or 3 days for the money to be deposited into his account (that's today at the earliest or tomorrow or maybe longer). The "recall" may also take some time to get to the branch in Baton Rouge and if the money gets deposited before the "recall" gets there well it's a done deal for the crooks.

You cannot recover the money once it is deposited.

CoolKish, do you think I should call the Police in Baton Rouge?

There is a suspicious audiogon ad cheap 808.3i on audiogon very, very cheap for 808.3i and a seller with 0 feedback. Any Peckham sellers of 808.3i's (and, indeed, anyone) are welcome to post in the restaurant at the end of the universe!

Don't know if it's just trying to drum up business by scaremongering or if it's genuine but, according to this website, that postcode has been targeted for identity theft.

Update on my situation...

Well I told my bank to "recall" the electronically wired transfer on Thursday January the 8th and got a message from them the next day on the 9th that the US bank had indeed received the request for the "recall".

Today Thursday the 15th late in the afternoon after 6 business days, I get a phone call from my bank telling me that the US bank cannot contact or as not heard back from the person receiving the money so technically it is bad news for me... My money/deposit is gone!

One of the lessons I have learned is that the Canadian and American banking system sucks big time! How can an electronic message to another bank to "withhold" money or stop the delivery of a wired transfer take so long to be acted upon?

Really 6 business days? Never again am I transferring money electronically especially to someone on the Internet.

Bad news although doesn't surprise me. It once took over 3 months for me to get paid by an Americian bank.

Maybe if you had told the bank that they had recently returned fron Syria they would have acted a bit quicker and the scammer would be currently sunning themselves in Guantanamo Bay wink

Suspect listing just appeared on eBay for a pair of DSP8000 speakers could be a scam, the pictures used are exactly the same as ones used late last year for a pair listed in Leeds on eBay.

I made a cash offer to collect them etc, I was told no collection and bank transfer only, I may be wrong but it makes me very suspicious, don't want anyone to be taken in.

Hi all

After many years of admiring my 5200s my mate is in the market for a used pair of DSPs. He is looking at these eBay 7200 however, I think the price may be too good to be true.

The eBay seller has 0 feedback, is a new member, and wants to be paid by bank transfer. I've contacted him separately and offered to collect in a van from Stornoway and heard nothing back. Has anyone seen these pictures in an eBay advert before or indeed been in contact with the seller themselves?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Care is required, payment only after seeing and hearing them in person, suspect you may never hear from the seller.

The old maxim "If it looks too good to be true..." Seems appropriate.

It's amazing how much high end kit resides in Stornoway, and other far flung places where no one would ever be likely to get to to view the items. Even supposing they exist and are in their boxes shipping would be punitive.

I wouldn't touch these with a barge pole, even if I could find one long enough.

Frankly I don't care whether it's a scam or not. Who's going to pay 3,440 for two pairs of 5ks and a centre? Way overpriced.

If I remember that one was originally posted with no photos at all!

Well they eventually replied:
Quote:
For sale is the vertical DSP5000C (in the photo). There are 2x DSP500 Smiley speakers (also in the photo) and 2 x DSP500 oblong speakers. This set will not be split or sold as individual pieces.
and still for an utterly ridiculous price given their individual market values.

He has 130 positive feedback including some high end hifi kit

I smell something fishy. If I'm wrong I apologise.

I contacted this one for a pair of DSP7000s in Madrid which I'm pretty sure is also the same as this pair.

The vendor then tells me they're in Poland not Madrid, they are 230v with these serial numbers already used earlier in this thread for a paid of DSP5200s! He sent me 5 pictures of a pair of DSP5200s.

SN#D5200200659B and SN#D5200200659A

Email address of vendor blapiottr@gmail.com, comes up blank on a Google search.

I asked for more photos and a Skype demonstration and no response since.

Excellent condition, mint! Tested prior to the sale, 100% operational.
We will do the transaction through EMS Express , this company has a escrow service.
The shipping company will take care about the shipping and payment.

I find this to be the best way for both parts to conclude this transaction, it is safe and time saving, specially for our side since we have very little time to deal with the particulars of transporting the item ourselves.

We will do the transaction through EMS express , this company has a escrow service. (www.ems-express.net) )They will take care about shipping and payment.

To start the transaction I need your shipping details:

Name
Address
City
Zip code
Country
Phone number

Once I have these info, I will go to send the speakers.

These are the steps that we will have to follow in order to complete the transaction trough EMS EXPRESS:

1. I will start a new transportation order with the company, also insure the transaction, and this insurance will cover not only the product but it offers buyer's protection as well. Once the transaction is started, you will be contacted by the company and supplied with all information regarding the transaction, payment details and delivery dates.

2. For delivery to be made the company requires the deposit of EUR 3.400,00 made by the buyer, the deposit is fully refundable and will be made out to the company. The payment method is bank transfer.

3. After this the item will be delivered to your location and you will be given a tracking number which will allow you to keep track online of the item, for the entire delivery time.

4. Once you receive the unit, you will have a 2 day trial period in which the item will remain in your possession and you can test it.

5. Once the trial period is over you will have to decide if you want to keep the item, and sign the paperwork; after that the company will transfer the entire amount to my account. In case you do not want to keep the item, then your initial deposit will be fully refunded and the item will be delivered back to me at my own expenses. However the item is in an excellent condition and I am certain that the later will not happen.

I'm waiting your email with your info to move one with the transaction.

Thanks
Piotr

Yes please (not the speakers for me!)

I'd be curious how this escrow scam works though. From first glance it looks like a legit service.

I have checked out the Escrow site and it has only been up a few weeks with Blacky Piotr as the owner of the site who also happens to be the chap selling the speakers.

Stay well clear!

An 800v4 is on eBay at the moment, but has all the hallmarks of a hijacked account.

19 pages of the best goodies in every desirable consumer category, all at £0.99 start, all listed in bulk at the same time, and from the 800 listing, imploring any prospective buyers to contact via a gmail address saying they can't respond via eBay 'due to work restrictions'.

The mobile eBay site doesn't have links to report listings, but this has scam all over it.

Cheers

George

FWIW I emailed the seller and he responded that day confirming they were SpeakerLink and 230v. He said they were in the UK but did not give me his location which I asked for.

I am surprised to see $200 for DSP7000. Is there any technical reason why it is so low value now? I have 2 DSP7000 speakers and I am planning to upgrade from G68 to 861 (but no plan to upgrade my DSP7000).

Thanks,
John

Like the seller in the Ad, I also do not have any 7000 grin but we have different intentions. If you are willing to pay him $200, I recommend you donate to charity instead since you will never see these 7000s smile

It is a scam mad

I wanted to check a potential scam with DSP8000s. They should be SpeakerLink and from 2008. The serial numbers are DSP8000-4006XX A and B.

It is my understanding that the SL versions were introduced in the course of 2008. It seems unlikely to me that there were already 600 DSP8000.2s produced in 2008, but I might be wrong.

Not sure if they start renumbering again when they bump the major version on the serial number.

Thanks. After some further review the listing was indeed too good to be true: DSP8000.2 on www.audio-markt.de

Advert-ID: 4954111280

The asking price of EUR 9,000 was reason of concern and after some back and forth (e.g. his wife worked at DHL and could arrange for nearly free shipping and his idea to use an escrow company (www.essescrow.com) it was clear that this was a scam. I will post pictures from the listing at audio-markt.de and from a drop box folder the seller shared with me. You will notice that the speakers are different. If you see these pictures again in a listing this should give rise to concerns.

They are different for sure. The front glass of one is most likely factory legacy comms and the other is much more recent. They could have the same electronics serial numbers but the cabinet serial numbers will be different. Different rooms too from the molding on the baseboards.

Not sure of the etiquette on this but this guy is selling this eBay Meridian 557 and failed to sell previously and the feedback was he didn't accept PayPal but now says he does using a friends or would prefer direct bank transfer which I wouldn't do.

Anyway says the serial number is 200547 which you can see if you zoom one of the images, can this be checked?

Hi Longman,

This may be legit, he may not want to lose the 3.9% Paypal fee, or he may prefer to avoid the scam potential around Paypal as there are plenty of ways to be duped. In fairness, I'd decline Paypal for exactly the same reasons. I'd be more concerned that he lifted the lid to show it was unmolested.

Cheers

George
