Does anyone in here use Lightning DS from Auralic? Talking to Igloo Audio last night and they were very keen on it and suggested it was worth investigating. Looks like you need Auralic's hardware to get started but free software which doesn't look as rich as Roon.

I was reading about Roon being very linked to Tidal and if Tidal had issues then Roon could be on a sticky wicket.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I have used the Lightening DS app on an Auralic Aries Mini, it was very good but I preferred Roon, regarding Tidal and Roon, you do not need to have Tidal if you have Roon indeed many people don’t and Roon runs just fine, as for Tidal failing... who knows, Oppo ceasing trading soon seems to have come out of the blue! There are no certainties so you just have to jump in and enjoy what is available now.

One reason for preferring Roon is I can add an Auralic product to my existing non Auralic setup without changing interface, same if I wanted to add a Meridian product, with Lightening DS I can’t.

Very true, it was just interesting to hear someone talk about it so enthusiastically. I'm only trialling Roon right now, but plan to buy it. I figured if that was the same price or cheaper than the Roon subscription and as good - it would almost be a no brainer!
