Hi,

Just having trouble setting up the Sooloos USB output to the Mytek DAC and streaming high resolution and MQA files.

Can some one walk me through the set up.

Right now when I stream is shows me a constant 88.2 bps and 16 bits no matter what I stream through Control:PC. It also does not recognize the MQA files. Any help in setup would be appreciated.

MQA files must pass unaltered from your PC to the Mytek. Assuming you are trying to play the files from Control:PC, the consensus here is that it won't pass bit perfect audio.

If you are trying to play MQA files, are they from Tidal using Sooloos?. If you have a Tidal account, use the Tidal desktop app instead. It will pass bit perfect to the Mytek when correctly configured.

Correct. Control:PC is NOT a bit perfect source. MQA code will not be preserved.

Tidal app or Roon is the only way to get into a USB DAC.

How about the Sooloos endpoint MS200 or the ID40 ?

The MS200 can output digital with a specialty cable. However, you would need to turn off upsampling.

The MS200 and ID40 do nothing but pass on the PCM digital stream received.

Using Control:PC as an endpoint, your signal will not be bit perfect, thus there will be no MQA data for the Mytek to unfold whatever your path.

Is this a major drawback with the Meridian Sooloos system? Not supporting or facilitating it’s own MQA codec. Seems strange and irresponsible.

Should just to go the Roon route and give up the Meridian set up, Sooloos seems very out dated.

Are there any plans for updating Control:PC to pass thru bit perfect output?

I think you can get MQA with Sooloos, you just have to run your Tidal account through it and not use Control:PC.

Ideally you would stream it direct to the end point. Does your DAC accept streaming from LAN?

Thanks, Edd

Just adding further clarification.

Whilst they are both bit perfect endpoints and thus support MQA pasthrough providing the upsampling option is swtiched off.

With the ID40 card fitted in an 861 ... the processor itself does not support MQA passthough... not even in DIRECT mode frown

Carl

Yes, though Meridian and MQA are seperate companies ... admittedly with close ties.

Many of us have.

Only Meridian know, but I'd not hold you breath.

To clarify.

Sooloos Is bit perfect and this can pass MQA material for later deciding but only when used with a Meridian hardware based audio endpoint without upsampling/downsampling.

Software audio endpoints, such as Control:xx do not output bit perfect - for Control:PC and Control:Mac (but not Control:Web) I believe that they receive bit perfect but this is lost during the output process something that imho could and should be rectified.

Sooloos devices such as MS200/ID40 can pass MQA that can be later MQA decoded such as by 808/818/218 - tbh for 218 you would use the built-in network capabilities but technically it would be possible for Mx200 to connect to 218 and decode MQA.

The use of Control:PC for control does not prevent MQA from being used.

Note that, because the MS200 and MS600 are not "MQA-aware", you would need to set the Digital Audio Output of these devices to "Direct" (which neither up-samples 1x rates, nor down-samples 2x rates) in order to preserve the MQA signal bit-perfectly.
