Folks,

I have been putting up with this problem for a long time so I thought it was time to see if any HH might have a solution. I will point of that I have also changed the CMOS battery recently as an attempt to solve this problem.

Basically, if I select any period to put the display to sleep, the C15 can be brought out of the sleep mode for a very short period by touching the screen, as per how it should work. However, after a longer period of time (10-15 mins), not only can the C15 not be brought out of the sleep mode, but the core cannot be found on the network either. Looking through the top of the back cover, the red LED is still lit.

A reboot is required by holding the rocker switch down until the red light goes out and then pressing it again to restart the C15. However, another problem is that it can take several attempts to reboot the C15 where it finally goes through the complete boot up to arrive at the home menu, which is a PITA. Of course not being able to bring the C15 out of sleep via touching the screen, using the Sooloos App or the Meridian remote once it goes offline, is quite frustrating.

The unit will however happily stay fully operative and ready to use if I select "Never" for putting the display to sleep. Of course the downfall is that the screen will stay on continuously with the same unchanged display until it is changed, which cant be good for the remaining life of this C15. Right now it is the lesser of two evils as at least I can play music instantly is it never goes to sleep.

I cant think of anything settings wise that I have overlooked and I suspect there is a fault or two within the machine causing these symptoms.

Appreciate any suggestions, technical or otherwise that may solve this problem.

Cheers,

Steve M

Hi Steve

Does the hard drive sleep when the C15 does? Might be a sticky disk, time to consider a contingency, PM sent.

Hi Ratberg,

I have no way of telling if the hard disk drive sleeps when the C15 goes to sleep other than to pull the base cover off and checking. The hard disk is brand new, as per this recent thread;

C15 Device Settings Won't Appear

The same problem exisited with the old hard disk. After the recent Sooloos update, the device setting problem also reappeared on the replacement disk.

I am considering installing a SSD in place of the existing old platter type so will see if that makes any difference.

Has anyone had the habit of permanently leaving the home screen on with the sleep setting set to never over a long period ?

Cheers,

Steve M

No issues other than a bit of heat and the fuel bill.

SSD works very well in C10/15 and makes boot up faster and generally be quite snappy and silent.

Your issue is probably not related to the type of drive. There is a risk you could be throwing good money at a lost cause if it turns out to be another form of hardware failure.

Maybe swap for SSD and check every connection especially the power lines.

Nick

Hi Nick,

No money involved just time as I bought a very cheap $60 256Gb SSD the last time I was in the US. I use this as a portable drive for work so just need to save the files on it and get it ready for the Icy Box. I just need to check the size of my Library to see if it will fit. I don't have the size of library as others !

One advantage of leaving the C15 always on is that there is now just enough light in the kitchen, dining, family room after hours to go to the fridge without needing to turn on a light.

Cheers,

Steve M
