What is the paint finish on an M33?

It almost feels like silky material and not paint and has a texture to it. Is the texture part of the paint finish or is that part of the aluminium casting?

I guess that means it is not easy to touch up?

There are two different types of enamel - vitreous enamel and painted enamel. Vitreous enamel is a ceramic/glass coasting which is usually applied as a powder and then fired in a kiln. Painted enamel is a oil-based paint, often used on metallic surfaces, that gives a good protective coat.

The reason for highlight the difference, is that you can touch up painted enamel. The most important thing when trying to touch up painted enamel is matching the surface finish (matt / satin / gloss / crackle) as different paints are formulated to give different results.

Hope this helps Tarik with his refurbishment.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I'll report back on degree of success and any lessons learnt.

Are you intending to strip to bare metal?

Rust Oleum stover and BBQ paint will getting it looking pretty much like new.

Lots of very light coats until you have covered what is needed.

This was the top plate of my G68J that was resprayed using that paint.....

Yeah.

You can also use the plasticote matte black too, but the Rust-Oleum BBQ paint sprays better, a finer mist so good for touching up.

No to stripping all the way back. Just give them a good clean then spray. Is it matt rather than satin paint finish?

I found the Matte to be a much better match, almost perfect.
