Hi Everyone,

I searched but I can't quite seem to locate what I need.

I'm building a 7.2 setup for a client with DSP7200SE for L/R, 5200HC for center, 320s for sides, and 520s for rears. The customer has 2 DSW2500s that he would like to add on.

1. Since the whole speaker setup is SpeakerLink, do I absolutely need an AC12 for the sub? Or can I pull BNC comms and digital out from the center speaker and run them to a sub that way? So SL in to the center and BNC/coax out to sub, is that possible?

2. Can I daisy chain a second sub to the first even though the config program doesn't allow a 2nd sub?

Thanks in advance!!

EDIT: grammar

Thanks for that! Turns out we had an AC12 and that will keep wiring a lot cleaner so I haven't tried my idea.

I however can't get the sub to work. I have SL going to the AC12 and comms + SPDIF out to the sub and nothing.

The SL comes from the top row on the C/SUB output, the center is master.

From the AC12 I tried custom made BNC to DIN comms from master port and slave port, regular M lead to S lead, S lead to S lead, comms straight from receiver too but nothing. Using a known working RCA cable to carry audio.

Hooked up serial via Putty to the AC12 and while I can't type or do anything, characters appear whenever I change volume or sources.

The receiver is configured with all the speakers and a sub.

Is this an MHR issue or am I doing something wrong. Thanks again!

In my system, I went RCA digital straight off the center to the digital in on the sub and BNC comms off the center to the sub using a BNC to comms adapter.

When using a AC12 you need a comms return. Try going BNC comms off the center to the BNC slave comms connector on the AC12, then go DIN comms to the sub.

I would rather not do that, since the wiring is already home run to the receiver in a separate room. I would have wires on the outside of the wall from center to sub, which is only a few feet but ultimately that is no longer going to work for the client.

Are you basically saying i need to feed the AC12 a slave signal for this to work?

You need the return comms signal from some speaker. It may be possible to do it with a reviver but I have never tried one

Doesn't the SpeakerLink input on the AC12 from the G68 carry a slave signal?

The problem is when you mix SpeakerLink and legacy comms. In your case of home run, take a look at the last page of the AC12 manual that shows going SpeakerLink into the AC12 and Master comms to the slave speaker.

Greetings VlaDeMan,

This is obviously the main screening room at Pace Pictures in LA ! The problem you have described is not getting a slave Comms signal to the D2500's to turn them on. The subs will see the digital Sub feed signal from the Slave Centre/Sub SpeakerLink output that you have used on the G68SL but there will be no sound without the subs being told to turn on, so you definitely have a Comms problem.

When you Type the Comms in SpeakerLink speakers, you have to choose between comms over SL or comms over BNC. The AC12 is normally used to convert from the SpeakerLink output of the Controller in order to connect to Legacy speakers. You are trying to use it to connect a SpeakerLink Centre Speaker as the Master and then trying to connect the Legacy Subs in daisy chain as slave speakers.

With SpeakerLink speakers you would normally use SpeakerLink by default and therefore you will not get a comms out signal from the BNC comms out on the SpeakerLink speakers.

The AC12 User Guide gives several setups based upon the source types and speaker types.

AC-12 User Guide

Example 5 shows multi-channel with SL and Legacy speakers incorporated. However, you are doing something unusual which is mixing a SpeakerLink Master Centre with a couple of Slave Legacy Sub-Woofers and something is not correct with how Slave comms are being delivered to the Legacy Subs, which is why they are not switching on, for which there is no visible lights with the D2500's like there is with normal DSP speakers. You mentioned that you have made BNC to DIN comms adapters for using with regular M and S leads, so the problem maybe related to these.

There is a modification required to the M-Lead as per this link;

M-Lead Modification

If this was already done, then the problem lies elsewhere. The other thing to try would be to make the one of the front speakers a Master speaker and not the centre speaker. Then after retyping it, plug the Centre into the Slave Centre/Sub output of the G68SL then feed the SpeakerLink Out from the centre speaker to the AC12 and then the modified M-Lead into the first D2500 from the AC12. Then connect the second D2500 to the first with an S-Lead.

If you can't solve the problem, then the easier solution would be to incorporate a Reviver with a 180 degree S-Lead comms plug, instead of the AC12 into the comms wiring for the subwoofers. This would requiring SpeakerLink to the first D2500 from the Slave -Centre/sub output of the G68SL and connecting it to the Reviver, which would be plugged into the Comms Input and Digital Input of the first D2500. An S-Lead would then be run across to the second D2500. In theory, this should work.

Reviver Multi-Channel Home Run

120 Euros for the Reviver.

Others here will hopefully follow up on possible solutions.

Good luck Vlad.

Cheers,

Steve M
