Ratbert,

Yes the C15 is the only device on the network that can run the core. I have an Ensemble that I could install on the network as well but here is the catch ! Since I can't access the Device Settings on the C15 I cannot even turn off the core in the C15 and use the Ensemble's core.

Frustrating to say the least.

Cheers,
Steve M

If you don't have a backup, now would be an excellent time to make sure that you do.

Good news folks,

I remembered that when I got back from a visit to the US in June, I had disk copied my original 512Gb C15 hard disk on to a brand new 2TB hard disk that I had bought in LA. I checked that the 2TB hard disk booted up, which it did and then put it back in its packaging for safe keeping should my original hard disk pack up.

Well I have just installed it back into the C15, booted it up and found that I had immediate access to my C15 Device settings both on the C15 and the Meridian Sooloos Configuration programme, which was a win. I then checked both Tidal and TuneIn and both accounts were working, so everything back working the way it should be.

Just to double check, I reinstalled the original 512GB hard disk to check for the return of the problem, which not surprisingly reappeared, so I assume the problem was software/hard disk related.

I will now disk copy my 2TB hard drive and overwrite the original 512GB hard disk so that I still have a backup copy of the Sooloos operating system.

The C15 software version on my 2TB disk is V2.527 Device Build 527. I will expect it to get updated over the ensuing days.

Based upon this experience, I highly recommend that all C15 and C10 users make a disk copy of their hard drive so they can get back up and running quickly should their software or hard disk play up.

Also, taking the opportunity of having my cover off, I took a photo of the CD Drive so I could buy a replacement if that played up in the future.

If you are wondering why I am trying to future proof my reliance against having to get it back to the UK for a repair, a few years ago I actually hand carried my C15 to the UK for a warranty repair and arranged via my dealer to hand deliver it to Meridian to save the precious time of sending it to my dealer and them then sending it to Meridian. I was told it could take 2 to 3 weeks and I was only in the UK for 3 weeks!

I drove straight from Heathrow upon landing to deliver it and was very fortunate to be given a tour of Meridian Headquarters by Des Ford. I was also lucky enough to meet and chat to Bob Stuart in the Theatre Room, where he was overseeing the refit which was the last version prior to the recent new refit.

It was certainly worth the hand delivery but very stressful for redelivery as I had to collect it from the Dealer at Reading, which only arrived there just in time for me to pick up, prior to heading straight to the airport for flight back to Oz.

Cheers,
Steve M

For future reference, the Serial ATA CD-RW / DVD-ROM combo drive in the C15 is a TEAC DW-224SS-W93, P/N 1977218W-93.

Mine was manufactured in December 2008, so now nearly 9 years old !
