I don't want to derail the thread with cable recommendations too much as there are multiple threads about it.

I went with the AQ Vodka RJ/E and the controversial AQ RJ/E Diamond. Nowadays you have a lot more brand cables to choose from and there could be more costefficient cables out there apart from pure DIY with MFP8 TeleGärtner connectors.

Has anyone tried running an Amazon Fire TV (Gen 2) box with the new UHD722 and an 861v6? I tried this out on Saturday and had difficulty getting Dolby Digital 5.1 sound to pass through. It does successfully pass Dolby Digital 2.0 though. When I run a 5.1 video from Netflix I hear unprocessed digital data going to the 861.

When I was using the HD621 I used to successfully process 5.1 from the Dolby Digital Plus Auto setting.

The Amazon OS allows you to turn off Dolby Digital Plus but doing so forces apps like Netflix to only send Dolby 2.0 on all titles.

I have a similar problem with a cable receiver (Humax iHDR-5200C) and the UHD722 / G65. Dolby 5.1 just leads to terrible noise. It worked fine on the HD621 before. Switching to stereo in the audio settings of the cable receiver works fine.

Fortunately I hardly use the cable receiver, so my stereo-workaround is fine with me, but it seems like there may be a UHD722 / Dolby 5.1 compatibility issue.

This is good to know. I reported the 5.1 Dolby incompatibility finding to my Dealer in hopes Meridian will address it soon.

Ditto, I have suffered exactly the same issue with Fire TV gen 2 and the UHD722. Meridian have been aware of the problem for the past month and apparently are working on it but I've heard nothing yet.

I'll let my dealer know that two other folks have had exactly the same problem to give him an excuse to chase Meridian. Hopefully this demonstrates it isn't an isolated issue or an issue with set up but is actually a fault. You also cannot blame the cable for this one given the Fire TV uses a dongle!

In a funny sort of way I am thrilled someone else is suffering the same issue, confirms I am not going insane. Thanks for sharing!

I need the measurements of the UHD722 carton for a transport. Any change to HD621?

Maybe a early adaptor can help.

Many thanks in advance!

As someone who only really watches two video sources, AppleTV4k and Oppo 203, I think I'm going to skip this. I plugged the ATV into the back of the Oppo and switch on the Oppo. The Oppo sends sound to the HD621, and the image to the projector.

I'll probably do a second run from the HD621 to the Sony 4k projector for any legacy 1080p video equipment, but frankly I don't think I'll need to hurry.

The ATV has apps for all of the streaming services that I normally use.
The rare times I need to watch the output of my 4k video camera I'll just plug straight into the projector, or use the cable that goes to the ATV if I need sound.

In the US, are there any other devices/services that I should be aware of?

Thanks!

But does the Oppo 203 relay all HDR/UHD/Framerate information correctly from the ATV 4K, no funky stuff with that switch or process?

I took delivery of the UHD722, I use only one output to my projector and so far I have no sustained glitches. I did have to Fetch/Store the 8ch PCM option with MConfig to it as I have the 861v8(8ch), otherwise default is 6ch (for G68 and older processors).

Guys,

Just sent the following to Meridian support:

We have replaced our HD621 with the new UHD722. Also I’ve bought the new LG OLED C8 77 inch. Using the UHD722 we have the following issues:

- Passthrough audio; when using Kodi and passthrough audio we get noise only on our 861v8 system. This was working perfectly with the HD621
- HDMI handshaking is not correct: the UHD722 does not report correct resolutions and refresh rates to sources. For instance on libreelec / ubuntu, xrandr is only reporting supported refresh rates up to 30Hz using 3840x2160p resultion.

Also using Xbox I can switch to 4K fine, but running tests reports mostly not supported. When connecting display and source directly all is reported as supported.
Also Kodi / Ubuntu is reporting refresh rates up to 60Hz for 3840x2160p when connected directly.

I know the UHD722 does require HDMI cabling which can handle 4K / UHD / 4:4:4. I have tried the following cabling which all work when connected directly between source and display:

Kordz LUX 1,5m and 3m
Supra HDMI HD5 8m between display and UHD722, 1m between UHD722 and source
RU Connected optical 10m between display and UHD722 and 1m between UHD722 and source (HDMI2.0b compliant)

All these cables are capacle of at least providing HDMI2.0a standard. So I’m sure it is not due to cabling issues. To be clear; I have connected my Intel NUC running libreelec to the UHD722 (which is normally directly connected to my bedroom TV), and on that, when booted using bedroom screen, I can select 50Hz on resolution 3840x2160p and this is working fine. So the UHD722 is capable for sure, it just isn’t reporting correctly to sources connected to it.

Anyone with the same issues? I saw reports of the crackling noise when using audio passthrough, but what about the resolution issues?

Hi,

Just a note on our own experiences with the UHD722. We installed it in a system with two 4K displays: JVC RS4500 and 2017 LG Oled 65". Since the UHD722 has only one 4K output we also added an AVProConnect 4X2 4k matrix HDMI switch to feed the two displays.

I am pleased to report a very favorable experience over the past four weeks. My system has 7 sources, 6 of which are 4K. System turn on takes about 10-15 seconds to lock on to a source after the projector turns on. After that switching sources takes about 10 seconds or less to lock on. And resolution changes take about 5-10 seconds.

About once every 15 or 20 times, I have found the need to change sources, wait for lock on, and then switch back to the original. While this is not "perfect", it is easy to manage and results have been highly reliable. Also, I can report excellent identification of 4K/HDR sources and switching to that resolution in the projector.

Finally, the audio capability of the system is very high as long as the source can be put into PCM mode. The UHD722 does not decode. It is only a passthrough device. Coming from a Lumagen Radiance Pro which routinely failed to synch or lock on, this is a greatly improved result.

Interesting. I find that I have no issues whatsoever switching sources with the Radiance Pro on the latest firmware which has significantly improved synch or lock on, particularly to LG Oleds.
As such, I now pass my sources through my Lumagen first and use the two outputs to take the video to a splitter (for Oled TV and Projector) and the sound to my HD621. No need to upgrade to a UHD722
