Been trawling the forum and found the following information so far.

Required for the amp board of each speaker - so will need to x2 everything:

2x 3u3 400V Supersound
5x 10uF 50V
4x 100uF 50V
2x 1000uF 16V

I've seen mention of using Nichicon FG and also Panasonic FR capacitors.

Anyone used anything different, such as the Nichicon KZ which is supposedly a 'better' series than the FG? Suggestions as to where to order from.

Also has anyone recapped the other capacitors such as the large power supply ones or the ones in the DSP/Comms/Signal section? Parts list?

Decided to go with the Nichicon Fine Golds. I've now completed the re-cap of the amp section and replacement of the resistors (just in time as well). The improvement was so good compared to the cost of the components (approx £50) and the 2 hours it took, that I'm now investigating the other capacitors in the speakers.

My speakers were manufactured in 1994.

This leaves the DSP electronics, although I suspect the gains here will be marginal, signal input board capacitors, and the PSU board capacitors. It is the latter that I a struggling with the most to find replacements.

They are 4700uF 63V Slit Foil (ALT20S 1040 CD)

Anyone have any clue where to source alternatives?

Thanks for the information. I had stumbled across that page and thought the 2T Slit foil would be good. However I could not find it for sale anywhere as a 4700uF 63V only the 10000uF was available.

Looks like DNM and BHC were used for the original parts. BHC are now a part of Kemet. DNM seem to be working with Supertech.

Kemet came up with the part number ALT20A472CD063 but again no retail outlets have it.

I have gone for the 4700uF 63V Gold Tune Type III capacitors.

If anyone wants any help, send me a message.

I've learnt a lot by doing them and will post a complete list of parts soon and a perception of improvement as I also put in new tweeters.

In addition to the amps, I've now done the rest of the capacitors including the PSU capacitors, the input board, and the DSP board and even the one in the display!

As promised here is a complete breakdown of the parts to service a single DSP5000 (don't forget to double quantities for a pair). I serviced a pair of 7 segment 24/96 upgraded speakers, so yours may be different. Its not difficult to open the backs and check the component values.

Board   Qty Ea  Value           Manufacturer Part No

     Amp     2       1000uF 16V      Nichicon     UFG1C102MHM
             4       100uF 63V       Nichicon     UFG1J101MPM
             5       10uF 50V        Nichicon     UFG1H100MDM
             2       3.3uF 400V      Ansar        Supersound
             1       680R 5W         Kiwame       n/a
             1       330R 5W         Kiwame       n/a

     DSP     1       2.2uF 400V      Ansar        Supersound
             4       3300uF 6.3V     Nichicon     UFG0J332MHM
             2       2200uF 16V      Nichicon     UFG1C222MHM
             2       1000uF 16V      Nichicon     UFG1C102MHM
             1       1000uF 10V      Nichicon     UFG1A102MHM
             1       1000uF 6.3V     Nichicon     UFG0J102MPM
             2       100uF 10V       Nichicon     UFG1A101MDM
             3       10uF 50V        Nichicon     UFG1H100MDM

     Signal  2       4700uF 25V      Nichicon     UKW1E472MHD

     PSU     2       4700uF 63V      Nichicon     LKG1J472MESCCK

     Display 1       47uF 16V        Nichicon     UFG1C470MEM

Some of the capacitors are a larger physical size than the originals, but they do fit.

I got the most improvement from recapping the amp board. There was a very small benefit from doing the other boards, although it does protect against damage due to component failure.

With respect to the tweeter upgrade, this made little or no difference in my case.

Nice detailed thread... Many thanks for the time to write it up, now I'm sure many will be wondering how much for the service/upgrade.

Really surprised to hear about the tweeters, I've found that replacement is a great upgrade (using black domed tweeters, second hand). This means the original tweeters were fine then? How old were they out of curiosity? You couldn't return the new ones to the friendly Meridian partner then?

I think the speakers were originally manufactured around 1994 although not sure as I bought them 2nd hand.

I would not expect a PP to take back what are now used tweeters. I can only conclude that the original pair were still ok.

At least I have a spare set now.
