Are you sure that will work? I thought ROCK is fundamentally display-less. I would have thought you'd need either a NUC for the screen which is also running full Roon (under Windows, probably - so no ROCK in sight); or two NUCs, one for ROCK, and one for the touchscreen. (This is roughly what I do, for historical reasons.)

I just brought two C10s to the dump. I shed a tear leaving them there but they both failed at the same time. I have a TwinStore that is now useless since I don't have a component to run the Sooloos core. I have to bring it to my other Sooloos system to access and wipe it and put it up for sale. I have been combing the Roon forum and have already started my 14 day trial off my laptop with my iTunes library. I don't know what I was waiting for other than to say that my Sooloos experience has been terrific and I've had no reason to look at Roon. For me, it is a welcomed but unexpected upgrade.

My main library has been transferred to my NAS. I've ordered my NUC and I'll be installing ROCK. The only thing I am not looking forward to is retraining my family.

As slick as the C10/C15 is, the "long in tooth" analogy certainly applies.

Bill

Hello Bill

Welcome to Roon, lots of help on the Roonlabs forum if you have any questions, just one point, you can use your TwinStore as a NAS it will just show on the network. It is best to reload it with the music in FLAC format rather than the encrypted Sooloos format. I had 6 TB disks in mine.

The three disadvantages I saw were:

1 Its size.
2 I's very noisy.
3 It's lack of diagnostics.

So I ended up moving to a QNAP NAS.

Cheers
Russ

Russ,

Thanks for the tip. Can the same be said for an MC600? I have two Sooloos systems. I exported my MC600 library to a NAS as FLAC files. I am still going to run the MC600 because I use the outputs. It would be convenient if I could move my unencrypted music library back to the MC600.

I wonder if Roon sees all the outputs of the MC600 as zones. Never heard of anyone using that combo.

Roon operates much like Sooloos did with files being routed via the system core. So, if your core is a NUC the files can be anywhere on your network. If they are on the MC600 storage then they will go MC600-NUC-MC600 outputs. It doesn't matter too much but worth noting.

Rgds,
Nick

A question for Danny on the Roon forum?

I can confirm that Roon sees all six zones on the MC600. They pop right up just like any other M endpoint. I'm using it because I have it. It supplies music to my family room through two zones and feeds my AC200 in the den.

Has anyone ever tried putting in a new hard disk and see how far they can go from installing WIN versions starting with XP and then onwards until the functionality disappears with a lack of driver availability?

It should be seen as a Touchscreen Windows Computer on Win 7 as I bought two Sony touchscreen computers for my sons back in 2009 loaded with Win 7. If you get that far and have functionality you might just get there as a Roon device ????

Viruskiller maybe able to shut this thinking out aloud idea down real quickly but just putting it out there.

If it doesn't work, back in with the Sooloos hard drive and all is restored.

Cheers,

Steve M
