I like my C10, but am wondering, since Sooloos/C10 is getting obsolete, whether it is possible to renew the C10 internally, in order to make it a Roon compatible device.

The most interesting issue is, I guess, is it possible to re-use the screen and make it function as an ordinary touch screen?

What are your thoughts for doing this?

I wonder whether a Linux box and Roon could be made to work on it.

Drivers may be an issue.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Actually, I like the design of the C10 and find it very practical in use. Also, well I guess the technical challenge I find interesting. I'm researching all the ins and outs of switching to Roon (mainly to make my collection more futureproof)and it seems fun to convert a C10 to a Roon-capable device.

As Meridian is for some just as much about the design as it is the audio, it would be nice if Meridian could facilitate the reuse of some great enclosures that now contain obsolete electronics.

By publishing engineering drawings, service instructions (i.e. how to dismantle some of the kit) and, a nice touch, original part numbers (if not Meridian specific) and specify/supply drivers for some of the parts of the kit that may not be so obsolete, people could reuse these enclosures, working parts and fix kit that Meridian no longer service by sourcing their own spares.

I would love to repurpose the cabinet and sound card of my MC200 as it would be unlikely now that Meridian may offer a Roon upgrade on Sooloos kit as was apparently part of their original plans when it was still Sooloos. It's still a great cabinet and more than adequate sound card, but the motherboard would be nice to replace and turn it into a Roon server.

Have fun, personally I would buy a NUC download the free Roon ROCK operating system for it and then mount the NUC to a touchscreen display but to each their own.

Or go for something like this shocked

The biggest issue with converting a C10/C15 for Roon would be the screen type. IIRC the C10/C15 screens were single touch. I don't think you could swipe on them. Roon is designed for swipe.

However, if the screen could be replaced and be swipe-able and fit the 4:3 case then OK. That's a few if's.

But, I agree with Ratbert ... buy a nice touch screen monitor and a basic i3 NUC bolted to the back.

Nick

Hi Nick

Or better still a NUC running ROCK and RoonServer and an iPad.

The C10 does look great though, I love mine, and it's easy enough to drive that my wife loves it too. I do find the touch screen a little basic and 'old fashioned' compared to modern screens.

My plan is similar, if it dies, I'll investigate pulling the guts out of a modern touchscreen monitor and fitting that in the C10 housing, whacking a NUC on the back, and running Roon or the Sooloos PC app.

A very simple alternative would be to use a 12" iPad on a Launchport stand, again, running Roon, or the Sooloos app.

Cheers,
Jason.

I am aware that converting a C10 is not the most practical thing to do. I just hate to say goodbye to such a nice console. Of course, a NUC and just my HP Spectre with touchscreen is more practical. I think it's inevitable to have to say goodbye within a few years. I don't think it's easy to find a 3:4 multitouch screen that also fits in the C10, but if I do, I'll fit a NUC into it as well.

To be honest, the longer I think of it, the more it seems the best solution. I will consider this seriously.
