Well yesterday I was very happy.

Today not so more. The G98 is producing a clicking noise between music tracks.
It is mechanical. So it is a relay in side.

Any clue?

I will restart it to only transport, will see.

Best regards
Andreas

If it was a G68, i woukd definately say the relays that force signal to ground. A charastic of the machine, especially when changing source and losing digital lock.

Its probably the same on G98, but cant recall ever hearing it on mine.

As you say its happening between tracks, it could be a side effect of G98 losing lock between tracks, either something with the disc causing it, or DVD drive on its way out.

Ah, you changed DVD drive didnt you. Well maybe its not quite the exact model/firmware.

Hi,

beliefe me the sound is fantastic. So no problem with the drive or the firmware.

It looks likes it tries to change some DSP in between when the sound level is going down.

Bet a 100 pounds that it has to do with the sound processing inside, which can be reset.

As always I will sort that out.

Wonne bet sportsman!

Currently listening to Carry Underwood (Two Cadillacs in 24/192) on two G57.

Absolutely cool!!!

The relay clicking on G68 was unfortunately by design, to protect outputs by forcing to ground when DSP code was being loaded, for instance, between DSP mode switching. On 56x and iirc 86x, the relays are solid state so no clicking, but still grounding the outputs.

If you say the DVD drive swap and firmware is perfectly compatible with the G98, and similar method is used in G98 to protect outputs, then you need to find what condition is occuring to make the G98 think it needs to protect the outputs. It could be as simple, as per G68, that this is occuring when a different codec is being loaded or digital lock is lost.

Hi,

very interesting. So here are my questions:

1. Can you change the relays to solid state?
2. Skip them at all?

Best Regards

Andreas

By the way

I have a very complex system at my home home.

It contains a DVDO and sometimes there is a very bad distortion coming.

Which brings the sound controller or the G57 into protective mode.

Than you have to switch them (hard reset) on and off.

I think there is a design flow somewhere.

Hi,

If you ask my professional view on this as air and space engineer.
I would say there is a threshold before the grounding is taking affect.

Which means for example no sound for 1 second protection goes in.

Could it be that the standard gap between tracks has changed.

So we are now over the threshold. Can you adjust the threshold?

Only thoughts

Andreas

And still the best sound I ever heard if you upscale the DVD-Audio to 192/24.

Told you so,

I figured it out!

So burned the same tracks with the option "gapless between tracks".

Actually I was thinking there are absolutely no gaps between the tracks.

But there is still the same gap, but this time no clicking.
Can anybody tell me what the option" gapless between tracks" really does?

Nero 2017 or HD-Solo Ultra

Best regards

Andreas

Hi sportsman good thing you did not bet!
