I have no ethernet connectivity available near my 5500's.

Has anyone used the Global Cache WF2SL iTach WiFi to Serial (RS232) with DSP5k series to establish volume control using either vMSR or Roon?

With the right connections (SPDIF+COMMS) the MC200 should be able to control the volume of the 5500's.

How do you have:

- MC200 to DSP5500 connected?
- MC200 to LAN connected?

MC200 to DSPs ... that's one typical application for a Reviver or AC12.

Hi Carl,

I have the MC200 connected to my cable/wifi router in a cupboard under my stairs. I then have a Digital coax cable running from the MC200 to the DSP5500's.

This setup allows me to use Control:Mac for music library browsing & selection, but I still need to use the MSR to control volume. I'd like to use one system to control volume & select tracks to play. I just discovered Roon today & it looks like a a great upgrade from Control:Mac!

Understood, to get volume control you need to add a comms cable between the MC200 (SpeakerLink out) and the Master DSP (COMMS in)

See SpeakerLink used as Digital Out (XLR or SPDIF) plus COMMS and RS232 for the connection details.

Alternatively, as Robert states, use a Reviver or AC12.

I bought a Reviver. I've realised that I still have a challenge though: I can move the MC200 to sit with my speakers (& connect using the Reviver) but I still need an ethernet connection back to my router from the MC200. I have no ethernet wall sockets in that area.

Will the MC200 (& volume on the DSP5500's) be controllable in Roon connected to either a wifi range extender plug, or to a powerline kit? If so, then which makes/models have worked for others?

Thanks in advance for your help everyone.

Hi,

The MC200 should have a wired connection so Powerline rather than a wireless connection.

My vote for powerline too, if yiu electrical wiring is in good condition and you do not have to pass via 2 or more RCD's - in UK, a modern consumer unit (fuse box) is split in two halves, and on latest regs, both sides are protected by their own RCD. Which means that if your powerline network spans 2 electrical circuits and those circuits are each on a different side of the consumer unit, it could prove troublesome. Earlier split consumer units would have only one RCD, so one side protected (typically sockets) and other side not. This configuration would be ok, even if the circuits were on different sides as only one RCD was in the loop.

Ive had excellent rock solid results with Devolo AV200 (more than adequate for audio) but trouble with TP-Link 500 units, to the point I never run more than one at a time. Also dont be tempted with any Devolo product that contains wifi as thats problematic with multicast networking needed by Sooloos (probably Roon too and I suspect/guess 218 config by the looks of things).

Edit Reason: Brain fart - Belkin -> Devolo

Thank you both. It's so useful to hear the experience of experts!

One final thing I forgot to mention is that I need a power passthrough on the Powerline plug. In order to plug both the MC200 & DSP550's directly into a mains socket.

Belkin seems to got out of the Powerline business, so it's tricky to find their product with this facility. I have on eBay though: http://www.eBay.co.uk/itm/Belkin-Surf-Powerline-AV-Dual-Pack-200-Mbps-Used-F5D4079uk-/122461278891?hash=item1c8342d2ab:g:k20AAOSwzgBYxxV6

Are Belkin, & therefore this eBay purchase, the only safe bet? I think my electrical setup is fine & straight-forward.

Best wishes,
Jason

Sorry didn't mean Belkin, meant Devolo, likewise avoid anything WiFi on Devolo.

Ok, I'm all setup with Roon & my DSP5500's, which was well worth the additional effort!

My MSR doesn't seem to function in the setup. Do I need to re-program it somehow, or is this a 'small price to pay' for the extra control I have?

One final thing: is there a wall mounted volume control that uses wifi to control the volume in Roon that anyone has found?

As always, thanks for your assistance.

Are the DSPs set up with one typed as master/controller?

Yeah. They're displaying the message 'SL61'.

I don't see how I can turn them off.

That control doesn't appear to be in Roon & the MSR can't perform this function either.

Has anyone else had difficulties with having an MSR remote work with legacy DSP5k's, connected to a MC200, using a Reviver?

I want to control volume with both Roon & my MSR preferably.
