Hi All

Here is an interesting option for those HH's using Roon, Kef LS50w speakers are soon to be enabled as a Roon endpoint (presumably by a sw update rather than a hardware change), this was confirmed recently by Ron Locke of Kef to an owner on a factory tour.

A nice relatively minimalist setup although cables are still required despite the 'wireless' description.

It's a nice solution and they shouldn't be the first to market with the concept! The cost to go active and network isn't huge either when compared to the passive version (£1200 difference). I looked at the specs and there doesn't seem to be an ADC involved which suggests that an rPi3/Explorer 2 /MQA solution should work and could even be powered by the speaker.

Cheers
Tom

Hi Tom

I agree with you they should not have been first assuming they are, either way HH have been discussing the endpoint being in the DSP speaker for a long time without any sign of it happening.

Your comments on MQA I believe are correct as you can connect to the LS50w's via the analogue phono which bypasses the DSP and operates as an analogue active speaker.

All in all a very flexible and pleasing product.

Cheers

Russ

Did Meridian not buy into/form a partnership with a specialist wireless audio company some months back?

Did that opportunity go away with Roon?

Hi Gianni

I seem to recall something yes, not sure if it went with the Roon split?

Cheers

It's a pity that you can't specify which speaker is right and left. All the connections are on the right speaker. I need them on the left frown

Is it what's stopping you from buying them?

Cheers

Can't you just reverse the wires at the output or with a splitter or whatever is required and reverse the speaker locations?

It's certainly mitigating against it.

I don't really understand that on a technical level. There's loads of different hard wired connections for stuff on the right speaker. All the things I would want to connect would be next to the left speaker (with no easy route for wiring to the right speaker even if I was prepared to have loads of long wires)
