Well, QNAP 4.3.3 kills the Sooloos app.

Looks like any 32-bit apps will no longer work (among others Twonky).

It does work with Roon FYI. I updated mine. I know this doesn't help with Sooloos.

I downloaded the Sooloos QNAP app the other day and the readme file says...

Quote:
Sooloos app on QNAP NAS

There are two versions of the Sooloos QNAP app. The correct version of the app must be installed as appropriate for the version of QNAP "QTS" software being used.

- If running QNAP QTS 4.2.x, install "Sooloos_QNAP_QTS_4.2.x.qpkg"
- If running QNAP QTS 4.3.x, install "Sooloos_QNAP_QTS_4.3.x.qpkg"

If an existing version of the Sooloos QNAP app is being updated, the new version of the app can be installed without first deleting the existing app.

If installing the app onto a QNAP device for the first time, full installation and set-up instructions are provided on this video.

There is a download on the Meridian website version in my account:- Sooloos_QNAP_QTS_4.3.x.qpkg which I believe works with the new QNAP 4.3.3 update. There is also an install video. I installed it last night and it did show as running okay with the new QNAP 4.3.3. I do not use my QNAP as a core but it is visible in the Meridian Sooloos Configuration v31 with all options to use as storage and system core. Check it out.

I'm relatively new to Sooloos and QNAP, so a little nervous about doing updates. I have a QNAP TS-251+ running OS 4.2.0 and Sooloos plugin v 529. I see that it is now 'safe' to update the OS to 4.3.3 to use the new version of the plugin; but is there a step-by-step guide to do this so that I don't lose all my current Sooloos library? E.g. Do I install the new plugin before or after updating the OS? Any setting changes I need to look out for (e.g. Auto firmware updates) that get changed/reset during the OS upgrade?

Tim,

The update from the 32 bit (QTS 4.2.X) to 64 bit (QTS 4.3.X)QNAP firmware is relatively easy, but sounds a bit daunting first go around.

In order, I just updated my HS-251 (backup server) and TS-453A (dedicated Sooloos server). Then I updated the Sooloos firmware. All has gone well, no gremlins observed, and subjectively the library seems to load faster.

Here is the process as best I can remember it. You'll probably steam ahead of me here but I've attempted to detail every step and not assume any prior knowledge.

Step One - Update QTS

Open the QTS app (I do so from the QFinder app on my networked Windows 10 computer - there is a Mac version).
Open the "Control Panel"
Open "Firmware update"
Click on "Firmware Update"

If you are offered QTS 4.3.3, follow the on-screen instructions.

Alt Step One - If Required)

If, as occurred with my HS-251, you are only offered QTS 4.2.5, you need to update manually. As THE book suggests, Don't Panic! Follow these instructions:

Go to the QNAP site and down load the firmware for your device. Here it is step-by-step if you haven't done it before...

Go to www.qnap.com/en-us/product_x_down/

Choose your device particulars in the two pull-down menu boxes:
Number of drives ("2" in your case)
Model ("HS-251+" in your case)

Below that you will see:

"Downloads and other support for HS-251+"

Choose "Firmware" (the top left radio button).

Download the Firmware to your preferred location.

When that's done, head back to QTS.

Open the "Control Panel"
Open "Firmware update"
This time, choose manual update over live update.

You will be presented with a box to enter the location of your new firmware next to which is a "Browse" button to make it easy. Once you have the file location entered, click on "Update System."

Follow the on-screen instructions.

After the device has updated it will reboot. Your 32 bit Sooloos app will no longer work so don't distract yourself (or panic) with trying.

Step Two - Update Sooloos_QNAP_QTS_4.3.x.qpkg

Download the new QNAP Sooloos App from:

https://www.meridian-audio.com/en/product-support/streaming/media-source-600/

Scroll down to "Software" and click on

"Sooloos for QNAP NAS.zip"

That will download both the 32 bit AND 64 bit versions.

As stated elsewhere you want:

"Sooloos_QNAP_QTS_4.3.x.qpkg"

Go back into the new version of QTS running on your QNAP NAS and open "App Center".

IGNORE the Sooloos App icon that appears with any other installed apps.

Go to the top right of the screen and click on the icon that has a "+" sign on it. It's to the immediate left of the settings icon (a cogwheel). The icon you want doesn't have a descriptor when you hover over. Its for manually adding an app.

You will be presented with a box to enter the location of the new "Sooloos_QNAP_QTS_4.3.x.qpkg" that you just downloaded. Again, next to the box is a "Browse" button to make it easy. Once you have the file location entered, click on "Install."

Follow the onscreen instructions. This will overwrite the 32 bit Sooloos software - so no need to uninstall it.

When the process completes you'll have your Sooloos system updated to the 64 bit version of plugin v529.

All done! Although it's probably good housekeeping to reboot everything, including modem and router.

Any fellow hitchhikers who find fault with my instructions, feel free to correct and republish, no pride of authorship here.

Good luck Tim.

If our pals at M read this they might see fit to correct/finesse my notes and publish them in the support section of their website. Too much of the Meridian experience is poorly or inadequately explained (IMHO) for the benefit of people who expect consumer electronics to "just work", and are not overly proficient with the mysteries of computers, much less Meridian setup-topologies..

I continue to be indebted to many who have helped me in the past by sharing on this site.

I updated today, procedure pretty much as described above, except I updated to 4.3.3 a few weeks ago and left the 32bit Sooloos not running.

All went well, and Sooloos Core (64bit) is running once more on my QNAP.

Control:PC prompted to upgrade, this also went smoothly.

Upgrade all seems to have gone OK. Not sure how I know that I am now using the 64-bit version of Sooloos as it still just reports as 'System version: 529'; but I guess the fact that it is running ok on QTS 4.3.3.0154 means it must be?

Initially my iPad could no longer find the system core (even after re-installing the app); however rebooting the iPad solved that.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Sooloos is now very unstable. Both Control:PC and the web browser interface just keep refreshing every 4 or 5 seconds (with the spinning wheel inbetween each refresh). It happens so quickly you don't get a chance to click on anything.

I've tried rebooting the QNAP but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Tim,

Sorry to hear this. It's odd, and from the various threads on this topic doesn't see to be a persistent problem for anyone else (yet).

My system has bee absolutely stable and has been playing music for about 10 hours a day since I updated 5 days ago.

I've been selecting music from my library and from Tidal using:
an iPhone 6s
two different models of iPad
two windows 10 PCs (one wired to the switch and one wireless), and I've used (tested) the system with Control:PC and Touch PC on each machine. All rock solid (so far).

Have you tried shutting everything down including the modem, the router, any switch, the iOS device(s), computers and QNAP server? Leave it all off for thirty seconds or so, and bring back up, stating with the modem and then the router.

When you shut down the QNAP, do at the switch on the back, don't just disconnect the power. let shut down fully.

I think most of us have found at one time or another that a whole system reboot solved an inexplicable gremlin (with DCHP conflict origins).

Yep, tried rebooting everything, including all network components. Even tried clearing DNS and ARP caches (not that they're likely to cause the issue). All to no effect...

Sorry Tim.

I merely meant that I'm out of ideas. Carl and a few others like Ratbert are much more experienced with Meridian Streaming than I, and are who I would appeal to for help. Mother is Meridian.

Carl enjoys the exalted and deserved title on the blog of "President of the Imperial Galactic Government." You and I are merely "Mostly Harmless."

I'll avoid Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy references in future. Apologies.

What is the latest consensus- is it safe to update to the latest QNAP firmware?

I am running 4.2.0 on a TS-251 with core and store for Sooloos with no problems and want to update but will only do it if most people are not having issues.

Tim, did you get your system problems resolved?

If you go to 4.3.3 you will need to reinstall the Sooloos Core using the 64-bit option. M's website has the instructions.

Mine seems to work OK.

My understanding is that the 64 bit version will overwrite the 32 bit Sooloos core without uninstalling it - is that correct?

Correct, there is no need to manualy remove the 32 bit version ... the 64 bit installer takes care of it.

No, although not had chance to spend much time on it tbh. I did try installing Control:Mac on a MacBook (I don't usually use my Mac for Sooloos) and that seems to be working fine, so issue appears to be isolated to Windows.

After receiving a security alert from QNAP yesterday strongly suggesting the latest updates due to some hacking concerns, have decided to update my TS-669 Pro. This NAS has not been updated since the original installation a few years back.

Reading the preceding instructions in this post (very helpful!), it looks pretty straightforward - however thought I'd check before diving in:

Has anyone else successfully updated the TS-669 Pro to QTS 4.3.3 and then the Sooloos app with Sooloos_QNAP_QTS_4.3.x.qpkg? Any reason this should not work?

PS - have read various threads in this forum in the past and greatly benefited. Thanks to all who post here.

I may be posting prematurely, but latest build of QTS 4.3.3.0188 appears to have fixed my Control:PC continuous screen refreshing issue.
