Just downloaded- no idea what it's about yet.... any ideas

Just seen that now when you do a Tidal search on C15 that Masters are listed separately -good first step.

Oh dear! Downloaded this and an immediate problem.

MD600 running core (I have two) shows only 3TB of Media, could be a coincidence but why was there no indication of a disc problem before the upgrade.

I have registered a call for support with M and hope to get a call tomorrow.

Again Oh Dear!

Yes there are 487 Masters in the UK Tidal App Masters, however there are many many more available if you care to search and Blue Star Favourite them. Far more "M" interesting stuff out there on Tidal than this limited selection.

Having accepted this upgrade I see the 487 albums in Sooloos search Tidal/What's New/Masters/Albums, however this is not the answer as they are displayed in the Tidal App order. Totally Illogical!!!

Oh no, hope you get it sorted Hector. I'm going to resist applying the update. Poking around in the updates folder on my MD600 I can see that the ID41 firmware is unchanged at 1001169. MD600 goes from 1599 to 1613. MS200 stays on 1000169.

Control:Mac goes to 463 from 449

There is also 218 firmware.

Hi All

Update on MD600 problem post Sooloos SW upgrade.

Just another HDD failure with no indication on MD600. Disc is out of warranty so another 90 pounds outlay to purchase a new spare.

New disc inserted and MD600 appears to be happily synchronising.

Thanks again to the SW France member for superb support.

Made no real difference to my system, ID40/ID41 both appear and disappear in the Sooloos app routinely. They are and have been unusable for some time.

They appear rock-solid in IPscanner Pro or Fing but will nor remain available to either/both Roon or Sooloos!

Really irritating!

Quick and easy update via the M Sooloos webclient.

Tidal Master option this updaye offers makes selection easier altough prefer a sorting option to be available e.g. to sort artist alfabetical.
I assume the masters are Tidal driven and not MQA album tagged, that would be nice if Tidal offers that.

Listening at daytime in my office over the MS200 / STAX combi. FantastiC as ever but as I am working not critical listening.

Cheers!

Not suprising that an update that mainly addressed Tidal login and Tune-in issues would not fix your problem.

Just a question, have you had your issues looked at by a dealer or Meridian? It may be that you have something that needs to be serviced.

Just that, for the longest time, they weren't; but there have been a number of updates since I used Sooloos. With both MQA and USB MQA decoders a reality, I was wondering if the situation had changed.

Control:Mac cannot play RBCD 44/16 (let alone MQA and other Hi-Res) tracks to local output without stuttering. Last time I asked M support about this, there weren't any immediate plans to fix this.

I just confirmed the latest build 2.527 (build 463) still suffers from this problem.

I've just updated to Sooloos 2.527. Control:PC stopped working as did the iPad Sooloos app.

I've deleted the iPad Sooloos app and reinstalled it. However when it opens the 'Zones' drop-down box is showing and cannot be closed. No other functions in the app are usable.

I've uninstalled Control:PC and downloaded what I presume is the latest version. However, all I get is the Control:PC window with 'Connecting…' showing at the bottom.

Meridian Sooloos Configuration - v31 shows Control:PC but not my MS600 or MD600.

Is anyone able to help? As is probably obvious, my knowledge on the subject is fairly limited, so step-by-step instructions will be much appreciated.

Have you done a full cold reboot of the MD600?

Power off using the front button (light goes from white to blue).

Switch off the power at the back (light goes from blue to nothing).

Power on at the back (light on the front goes blue, various white lights on the front flash on and off).

When everything is table (all flasing lights off), switch on at the front (light goes from blue to white).

Are you connecting your Control:PC device wired or wirelessly - it (generally) needs to be wired for the first contact.

Thanks Gianni. Just done a cold reboot of my MD600 per your instructions. Unfortunately, no change. Control:PC is wired.

Jeremy

PS. When I open Sooloos Configure I get the notification - "an update to the Meridian Sooloos configure tool is available. After the update is downloaded, the software will install and automatically start the new version." However, when I do this, nothing changes.

The Sooloos Configure is not the software which you are trying to update to get 2.527 (if I have understood your response correctly).

Open a browser and go to the IP address of your MD600. That should load a kind of lite version of Control:PC.

Is the Messages tab (centre) there and is it flashing?

If it is click on it and you should see a page with a message called Update Available. Click on that. You should see an Update button, click on that.

Sit back and let it do its magic. Then recycle power per my above rubric.

Thanks again Gianni. I regret that I was not clear in my initial posting. I did originally try to update to 2.527 by clicking on the Messages tab in Control:PC and then clicking on the Update button. I later added my comment about Sooloos Configure to see if that would help shed any further light on the problem.

Anyway, I have just gone through the procedure you recommended using the Lite version of Control:PC followed by a cold reboot of my MD600, but no luck so far.

Jeremy

PS. I did a backup of my computer a few days ago to an external hard drive. Is it worth importing the backed up Meridian folder to replace what is on my computer now in Program Files(x86)?

Hi Gianni
My MD600s don't quite work as you describe at the "Power on at the back" stage.
Blue light comes on and the discs spin up momentarily. Blue light is then extinguished

I then press the front panel switch to start the MD600 and then everything happens as you describe, Blue light on finally changing to white when start cycle and checks are completed.

Had a really nice chat with Jeremy, his system is all updated and working, Control:PC is now ok and he can play music, the only issue is the iPad Core control app, the iPad is running the latest IOS 10.3.1 and the Core Control iPad app has been deleted and reinstalled however on startup the zone box opens and the app locks? Anyone else seeing this?

Cheers

Hi Gianni

Not certain, reboot of everything including router, disabling of pc firewall, power up of one unit at a time, deletion and reinstallation of Control:PC, just the iPad broken and the inability of Sooloos configure to see anything but Control:PC despite updating it to the latest version v31.

My heartfelt thanks to Russ for his very considerable assistance over the phone. He patiently spent what was probably more than an hour helping me to solve the problem. As he says, it is not absolutely certain what that problem was, but I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to sort things out by myself.

Control:PC works just fine now. The i-Pad Sooloos app is not functioning, despite deleting it and downloading again more than once. I have also rebooted the iPad more than once. The zone box opens on starting the Sooloos app. The zone box cannot be closed and everything else is locked up. I have the latest software on my iPad. Maybe there is a conflict between the Sooloos 2.527 update and the current iPad software?

Has anyone else experienced this? If I can't sort things out fairly soon I'll give a call to Meridian.

On your iPad, are you able to open Control:web with Safari? Maybe your wifi isn't on the same part of your network as your Sooloos gear..?

Hi Arlen

Thanks for your thoughts. The main point is that everything was working just fine before I updated to Sooloos 2.527. The problems started after that.

Frankly, I am not sure what Control:Web is. I have only ever used the Sooloos app on my iPad. I have just searched for 'Meridian Control:web' on Safari and then opened the 27 page document which explains about Control:web. I will look through this, but I'm not really sure why I might need it if the system was working satisfactorily before with the downloaded Sooloos app.

Anyway, as luck would have it, things have just corrected themselves. Previously when I was seeing the 'Zones' drop-down box on my iPad there was nothing in it, I couldn't close it, and everything else was locked. Just now I've tried again and this time 'Shop's MS600' appeared within the Zones box. Clicking on this allowed the box to be closed and everything works OK.

Overall, I really am not sure what caused the problems, but I much appreciate the help of folks here - particularly Russ - to get things working again.

Cheers

Hi Jeremy

You were most welcome and I am glad 'everything' is now working, strange that the iPad was failing and now works, monitor things for a few days just to be sure. The Control:Web referred to is the same as we did to connect to the core on the pc before we downloaded Control:PC but on the iPad e.g. Browser with the core IP address.

Cheers

Hi Xanavi

That was exactly what Jeremy had, try the following:

Turn off all Sooloos kit

Reboot any switches and the broadband router

Remove Control:PC

Reboot pc

Power up MC200 wait until fully booted

Power up pc, disable any firewall and virus checking programs

Identify IP address of MC200 using a network scanner e.g. Fing on the iPad

On the pc browse to the core IP address

If successful then select settings and download Control:PC

Control:PC should run, post back the results.

I had zero issues. Is this something that mainly those running Meridian cores are having problems with?

Hi Bruce

No idea, the two people I have tried to help seem to have the identical problem and in their cases they were Sooloos cores running on Meridian hardware MC200 and MD600 as opposed to QNAP.

In my case I think the problem may be something to do with interconnection through the router. Having thought that everything was sorted out with Russ's help, I'm now finding that when I turn on my computer I am unable to open Control:PC. I need to re-boot my router to get things to work. I have double-checked this by repeating the sequence. My iPad functions satisfactorily.

Prior to updating to Sooloos 2.527 I have not experienced any router-related problems. Anyone got any ideas / suggestions? Thanks - Jeremy

It is always best to have just a single connection to the main ISP connection router and to use a separate switch for your local network. If you have not already done so, I would recommend going the separate switch route - simple unmanaged switches are very cheap even from the better manufacturers.

Thanks John. I appreciate your advice but it does seem strange that I have experienced no router-related problems before the Sooloos update.

I am not at all knowledgeable about router connections. Are you suggesting that I use only one of the Ethernet sockets on the back of the router and connect that to a network switch of some type?

Can you guide me to a link to a simple unmanaged switch of good quality?

Exactly, I am sure the other linked switch will work fine, I tend to go for Netgear as being at suitable quality/price position for home use. e.g. a GS108.

I have not updated yet based on some of the problems people were reporting. System works perfectly with the previous version. I wanted to see if any folks had issues with MC600 specifically.

I have running the new software since it was released without any problems. But today I got the same problem as Xanavi. I Think ther must be a bug in the latest release. I followed the guide in this thread and got the system in operation again. But when I should turn of my MD600 it seems to be completely locked. I had to make hard shut down via the Power switch.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments. Whilst acknowledging that a separate switch for my local network may be a sensible option, I'm slightly puzzled as to why a Sooloos update should affect a router network that was functioning perfectly well beforehand.

I am using a ZyXEL VMG8924-B10A Router with 4 LAN ports. One was connected to my PC, and the other 3 to a NAS, my MS600 and a TP-LINK TL-SF1005D 5-Port 10/100 Mbps Unmanaged Desktop Switch (Extender hub).

The extender hub was connected to my MD600 and to a TP-LINK WPA281KIT V3 AV200 Powerline 300 M Wi-Fi Extender.

I'm guessing that my extender hub is similar to what is being recommended by you folks? I wondered if maybe I was confusing things by having my MS600 connected directly to the router and the MD600 connected to the extender, so I reconfigured the Ethernet cables so that the MD600 and MS600 both connect to the extender hub? Unfortunately this didn't change anything. It is still necessary to re-boot the router after firing up my PC. Any other thoughts? Is there a possibility that I need to reconfigure something in my router setup?

Jeremy

PS. I should also point out that in Sooloos Configure I only see Control:PC. No sign of my MD600 or MS600

PPS. I have just found out that my partner's laptop, which is connected wirelessly into the network, can open Control:PC without any problem - i.e. it isn't necessary to re-boot the router. My PC is hard-wired to the router and I have to re-boot the router to access Control:PC. I don't know if this information will enable anyone to give me any hints?

A long shot, but how old is your powerline kit? I had weird, inconsistent problems with a domestic network and it turned out the WPA281 kit had aged and was causing what can best be described as interference. When removed everything was fine (try that yourself). The better news was that TP-Link replaced it under their 3 year warranty (had to take it to their office though).

Watch out for the TP-Link switch. I've not found any confirmed specs, but another HH-er had a TP-Link switch that didn't handle multicast (needed for Sooloos discovery) in a typical home network. I checked the specs and it indeed handled multicast differently to what the user needed - it was not across the TP-Link range and cannot remember what model it was, but it was certainly one to be avoided.

Also regarding TP-Link powerline switches - I have a pair (AV200 but not sure on model) in my mainly Devolo setup and the TP-Link, even when used on their own, give me so much regular grief that I use them only for emergencies. One at a time seem ok, but both plugged in requires a reboot more times than I can be bothered to do. So unplug both of them and see how it goes.

Devolo on the otherhand appear rock solid and, tempting fate, probably less than handful of times in probably 7+ Years that I have owned them. I don't much care for Devolo software (constant very verbose logging) or wifi access points - avoid both of those, especially wifi which does not play nice with Sooloos.

Hoping everyone is enjoying the Easter Holiday. Thanks for the suggestions regarding my TP-Link wi-fi extender and switch. I've tried removing these individually and both at the same time from my router setup, but to no avail. I'm not totally surprised, because it does seem to be too much of a coincidence that my problems started immediately after downloading the Sooloos update, before which everything was functioning satisfactorily.

I'm not sure where to go from here. At the moment, provided I remember to re-boot my router after firing up the computer, everything is OK. If I shut down the computer or put it on standby I then need to re-boot the router to be able to access Control:PC. I shall probably try calling Meridian, but I'm not overly confident that they will be able to help.

A couple of points. When I look at my router network map I see my MD600 but not my MS600, whereas on the Fink network scanner the MS600 is shown. Should I be expecting to see the MS600 on my router network? It is obviously working because I'm able to use the system. Also, I'm wondering if the problem could be anything to do with the DHCP settings, although nothing has changed? I'm reluctant to start messing with this because I have no knowledge on the subject and somewhere in Meridian's on-line information it says:- "It is never a good idea to turn off DHCP for Meridian Sooloos components and manually assign static IP addresses unless you fully understand networking and IP Addressing."

In my router network map, when I look at the information for my MD600, the box is ticked next to 'Add device into Static DHCP'. As mentioned earlier in this email, I do not see the MS600 in the router network. Oh, the joy that a simple download can produce!

Well, the gremlins lurking inside my computer have struck again, but this time in a positive way. For some reason completely unfathomable to me, when I started my computer this morning, everything is now working satisfactorily with the Sooloos system. I'd like to be able to say that something I did yesterday had sorted out the problem, but I can't possibly put my finger on what that might be.

Anyway, I'm hoping that things will run smoothly from now on, and once again many thanks to everyone who has offered help. Jeremy
