It's 2017 already and the first event of the little rabbit Barn is over having welcomed back Dennis Ellsworth from Canada with his latest Album 'Romantic as it gets'.

This is the second time that Dennis has done an in-house gig for us at LRB and it's a pleasure to see him again listening to his wonderful music in such an intimate and friendly setting.

He beguiled us with his wonderful playing and sensitive songs.
The sound of his Gibson acoustic guitar was extraordinary and a real pleasure. The sound engineer was on form tonight.

In 2016 Dennis took a year out spending time managing a restaurant until he decided he didn't want to do that anymore. The call of the music was too strong, but now he will make music on his own terms.
So tonight we had songs inspired by the now sadly departed Winslow the Cat. Songs from albums old and new but they all sound as fresh as ever. One was only written three days prior to the show.

Dennis was telling me afterwards that he doesn't practice as such, he writes a song and then plays it when he is comfortable he has it down, and it comes out how it comes out. The songs develop over time.
The music on the albums can be quite different because it's played with a band in the studio with all the facilities, so every night when you see a Dennis Ellsworth concert you're likely to see a different show. "This keeps my music fresh and my mind Alert" he remarked.
Another reason for us all to support live original music. If you don't go you miss out on these treasures.

One day Dennis may get to play 'The Barn' itself but it would be too cold at this time of year.
It was much nicer to be sitting by the wood burner on a cold winters night.
We are making plans to try and do something for 2018 with Dennis and a band though. Here's hoping.

Dennis also told us the story of the rise and fall of his first band, 'Haunted Hearts.'
This is a band that he is now looking to re-form so they can play locally purely for the pleasure of performing amongst talented friends. No expectations other than to enjoy the ride.

Their first album with (the white cover) has been out of print for a while now. There was apparently only 750 copies made Dennis told me later. He is looking to perhaps do something in the future to make this material available again. I personally would love to hear it.
Donald Trumps election is the reason I wear black says Dennis as his only comment on these recent events.

Dennis; with his latest album is touring the UK and the Netherlands now. So, should you get the chance to see him play, my advice would be to take it. You will be rewarded by seeing a first rate singer songwriter at the very top of his game.

Special thanks must go to Jonathan and Lyn for staging this wonderful event. As always, the perfect hosts.
Their hospitality is second to none as anyone in attendance will readily testify.

You would be most welcome should you be able to make it. We had one chap fly in from Switzerland 🇨🇭 for one gig last year. No excuses lol

FYI The dates Are 4th March (Sold Out) 8th April, 13th May, 3rd June, 8th July, 26th August, 30th September and 4th November.
Hopefully these won't change. The artists will be on the website once contracts are finalised.
We do sell out early but I will always see what I can do if things are tight but notice is good.
If you can make it, I am sure you will enjoy it.

Cheers, Chris smile

Switzerland? If he had any self respect he'd have cycled in from there. wink

Thanks for the dates Chris; I'll see what I can do & book in as soon as I know likely dates. Had a quick peruse of the website & one thing it isn't short of is enthusiasm.

On the night, just half a grilled lobster for me; nothing fancy.

I can garuntee you won't go away hungry....
There is absolutely no money to be made here so we may as well enthuse just for the hell of it.
Here is a timelapse of the set up not including audio and lights. 7 hours work into 19 seconds.

We have two new videos up from Kelley McRae with Matt Castelein of which I am very proud.
The sound is fantastic, I had a Go Pro running on my tripod beneath my main camera as well as two rear cameras. Jonathan has made good use of the material to capture the feel of the Little Rabbit Barn.

A little off my own topic but we were lucky enough to be invited to see Stephan Fearing at a house concert sponsored by Rega.
This was a thank you for inviting Roy and family to The Little Rabbit Barn. We also got a sneak look into the 'Listening Room/ Recording Room'. The Holy Grail...
A good track to get into Stephen with is 'Beguiling Eyes' from his 1988 Album 'Out to sea'. Which is on Tidal.
The PA was direct through Rega power amps and six Small Rega speakers. No mixing.
My friend Gary set it up and that's the Analog way they like it.
Needless to say we had no digital time smear and it was a privaledge to be in the front row.
I purchased The Album 'South' by his band Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. Stephan Fearing, Colin Linden, Tom Wilson, John Dymond and Gary Craig. It sounded good in the car on the way home, cant wait to give it a proper listen.
Life is good, Chris
P.S just a note that I bought a CD at Rega and I don't have a turntable in the car...lol

We have just posted some videos from the Don Gallardo gig early last year with Thomas Collison on piano and Travis Stock on Bass.

North Dakota Blues

Enjoy....

It was lovely to receive this testimonial on Facebook.

"Seeing this beautifully recorded and edited clip of Don Gallardo, Travis Stock and me playing Don's song 'Down in the Valley', appear in my news feed this morning is a welcome reminder of a wonderful evening (the first of two last year) spent at the Little Rabbit Barn. The quality of the video production is an extension of the warmth and hospitality experienced as a guest performer of Lyn and Jonathan Rabett and their incredible team: Chris Kyan, Terry Goldsmith, James Partridge, Tom Fairbairn and everyone else involved. I played many shows last year with a range of acts, but the two nights Live at Little Rabbit Barn (the 2nd visit accompanying the matchless Hannah Rose Platt in October) are clear highlights. Thank you to you all!"

This is not Little Rabbit Barn other than I went with J, LRB founder and Emily Barker and Red Clay Halo were the first artist to officially launch the LRB leading to what we have today.

So, we went to see Emily Barker last night at Kings Place Hall1, in Kings Cross London last night.
The tube is an aural nightmare, how on earth do people do this daily?

Emily played with her new band, material from the new album
(Sweeter than Blue(I think)) due for release later this year. March.

To say Stunning, is an understatement.
She opened with a Solo vocal which was a statement of confidence and bravery. Jump in, the water is lovely......
The sound was the best live sound I have ever heard in a medium size venue Period!
As the performance progressed her voice became sweeter and sweeter. The material was mostly new and this show was the first live outing for her new great band.
The last Solo track she played was on the audio spellbind level of 'Bus From St Cloud' (Gretchen Peters Trio Album) if you know this gem.
All the musicians played in support of the music giving a beautiful balanced sound. The quality of this band has to be seen and heard to be believed.
Her keyboard/guitar played exclaimed that he likes the venue as they send an email a few days prior to the gig asking which Steinway you would like to use?
On the way their van broke down at Reading services where Emily was finaly to spend the night, so it's not all glamour lol.

If your an Emily Barker fan (She wrote the Wallander Theme) you will love her new direction. I can't wait to get hold of the new album on release and yes we did ask about an LRB return. It could happen and I hope it does as this girl is going places now.

Chris
