My F80 shut down a couple of times before. This time it shut down and died completely.
No response at all. Just dead.
Any thoughts and advice gratefully received.

I feel for you Chris as I know how much enjoyment this gives.

I've been trying to find if they contain a battery for RTC and other duties. They are of the era where battery problems may start manifesting if they contain one for critical duties.

Disassembly tips and internal photos

You may want to post this in main thread, may get more responses.

Thanks Ian, I have a friend who's F80 did a similar thing and he has bought a Naim Muso instead.
It's a problem if these things are not fixable and would go to explain why people are resistant to buying in the first instance.
I would expect that most F80's are heading this way eventually so an affordable fix would be very helpful.
Time will tell but I have to say TV speaker sound is Rubbish. ☹️

Chris,

If you can ID which part is faulty, I have some factory F80/AD88 spare parts I'll be putting up for sale soon. It may not be until next week though.

There is no battery on the main board of these units.

Regards,
Jason.

Thanks Jason, I have no idea just now what the trouble is. Are there any internal fuses to check? Any ideas welcome

Any dealers have an olive branch to offer here. Any knowledge or options?

You can get that fuse from RS components.

Thanks Tim. I will let you know if it fixes things or if somthing tragic caused the fuse to blow. No burnt smell though, which is hopeful, Chris

Good news, 10 fuses from RS components £6.81 delivered next day. (Thanks Tim) Fuse fitted and I have music. I am soak testing it now just in case another fault caused the failure. I will refit trims in a couple of hours. The fuse is exactly the same as the original unit fitted.

This is a job that can be done if you are competent and understand what you are doing.
If not, don't attempt it. My City and Guilds Electronic servicing training has come into its own today.

It's such a relief to get my F80 back.

Chris 😎
