I think M is waiting for a critical mass of MQA encoded material from the studios. Once that is achieved along with an agreed upon release date I'd look for M to begin shipping MQA upgraded hardware just before that release date. Something about "crossing the road together". Really like VK's theory too.

We can cross our fingers (and toes) that maybe something will be announced at CEDIA in October. Meridian America is there but, unlike CES, I don't know if any "major announcements" typically occur at this event.

I have had the 808v6 upgrade on order since it was first announced and in spite of multiple assurances over the course of this year that "it will be available very soon" it still remains an unknown. Again, I wish someone would just say something and that the something be fact-based and accurate.

System 2: 808.3 upgraded to 808v6, MC200, DSP8000.2 with SE Upgrade

Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF) runs from 2nd – 4th October, in Denver, Colorado. Bob Stuart, inventor of MQA, will be taking part in a number of show panels and press announcements.

MC200, 818v3, DSP8000 with SE upgrade, Swallow Acoustics ALS2 analogue speakers, vintage Technics SL10 turntable, and an old, modded Oppo 83 (rarely played).

After all, imagine if you'd spend say £1k upgrading your kit or sustantially more on a latest generation 818, only to find that MQA never gets released. Imagine the potential backlash at Meridian.
Looks like they're playing their cards right to me.
But it was not very ethical to accept orders in March for a March delivery was it?

Total speculation on my part, but it seems "logical".
I was told last February that the new 808 would bring improved sound to CD replay.

My dealer put me on a waiting list. He didn't take any money. That's in no way unethical, IMO.

This is correct. I heard that the upsampling in the 818v3/808v6 is completely new and comes directly out of the MQA research of the past 5 years. It's going to be a big deal for replay of standard definition material too.

Patience, friends! It will be worth it!

But being placed on a waiting list is not the same as placing an order and being given a delivery date as per my post.

It's a fine distinction. Certainly the dealers were expecting to be able to supply the 818v3 in March, presumably because M gave them this steer. I think alleging that M has been unethical is unfair - that implies some gain at the customer's expense on M's part (or by the dealer). I've had one "on order" since March but at no point has anyone asked for a deposit. If you paid a deposit then I think you have a case against your dealer. In M's case it's rarely the conspiracy theory that applies and nearly always the other alternative.

Asa Post,

I'm surprised that a dealer would have taken money for a product that was not yet released. You have my sympathy, but that is between you and the dealer, and not really Meridian's fault.

If you want to start a thread about bad dealer practice, go ahead, but this isn't an MQA issue and is off-topic.

The new 818 in now expected to come out in about 3 weeks with the upgrade kits shortly thereafter. The new 808 will follow on after that.
