My Explorer 2 was working with no problems, all I did was unplug the USB cable out then tried to use it.

No more power and it feels warm.

Only a week a old serial e200eb

Hi,

Sorry to hear this.

I doubt there's much you can do with it, so I'd advise your supplier and ask for it to be replaced with a new one.

Regards,
Carl

Exactly the same happened with mine. Returned it for a replacement (via Amazon) which has been working fine every day since.

Same problem here.
Supplier (Russ Andrews) replaced it without issue.

Seems to be a higher failure rate than the Explorer 1's, or did nobody report in when they failed?

Reported on here:

Explorer 1 failures = 0
Explorer 2 failures = 2

The Explorer 2 is infinitely more unreliable than 1.
OR
Statistically unsound (not enough sample data).

Let's hope you're right on the latter, Carl, otherwise it will become known as "Manufacturing Quality Awful"

I make it 3 if I count the posts on this page, still an unrepresentative sample I agree, but interesting nonetheless.

That would explain why "most people think DSD sounds better". You get a lot of that on the Internet.

The issue is of course that the population that have no issue do not post about it. Something about 'O-level sets theory' is forcing it's way into my head...

If it helps the statistics, I stepped on my Explorer1 hard enough for there to be a crunching sound, and it still works perfectly. crazy

Mine just failed, less than a month old. Amazon return accepted. There were two others in the Amazon comments with the same issue. Should I buy this locally or try Amazon again?

I recommend to not simply unplug the Explore (2) if it is still on power. The best means to disconnect it from your PC is to shut down your computer and disconnect it afterwards.
I have always done so and until now I have never had issues, neither with an Explorer1, nor with the 2.

This is awkward, but I have borrowed an Explorer 2 from a friend. It was working lovely with QNAP and Roon.

I went to it just now and it's dead. No Lights but still warm to touch.
I hope he has some warranty.

Any idea's? Chris

I posted my Explorer2 to Rick at Audio Images on Wednesday.

Yesterday; I got a message from Rick to say that he had received the Explorer2; tested it and confirmed that it was faulty.

Today I have just received a brand new replacement Explorer2!

What great service from both Rick and Meridian! smile

Thank you both very much.

Hi, My Explorer 2 also just went last week after I unplugged it. No power light but still running warm. Not recognised on USB port. Tried several computers that I had it running on before but no joy. Such a pity as I guess it is now out of warranty. When it wass working it sounds so brilliant listening with my Grado GS1000's.

Hope they fix this problem. I am reluctant to purchase another one given it does not appear to be an isolated problem.
