Thanks Paul. Am I correct in thinking that "DSP7200" (for instance) includes both 7200 and 7200.2 variants?

As these require dealer installation, presumably the price includes that?

Thanks Paul,

Is there a start date behind that?
Do you also have a closer idea about the EBA firmware only upgrade?

Thanks

I do not quite understand and cannot make sense of the warranty offers on SE upgrades.
Example Max 6 years on 8Ks, with 7200's and 5200's only 3 years max.
Why?

8ks have always had a longer warranty period than the other DSP speakers.

Hi Nick
Granted, but, please consider price difference between 5200's and 7200's with no difference in warranty.
Two Ronnies + John Cleese may apply here.
Surely a warranty should reflect the quality and reliability of the products being offered to the market by the company manufacturing them.
I do not believe you are suggesting that 8Ks are more reliable than 7200's or 5200's, just that if they do go wrong the cost of repair is higher and this is reflected in the RRP.
If not, "I know my Place" RC.

I imagine there a few 5200 owners having a bit of a nervous day today as the # of non-upgradable units is larger than initially suggested (assuming that production lots are of equal size). Would seem like pricing on 5200's will now become rather bifurcated.

I would add that as you move up the scale from the 5200, the value of the upgrade improves considerably. Assuming the pricing of the SE units is still accurate. It suggests that the 5200 upgrade is more comprehensive or the labor is the same?

- DSP5200 SE ----------- GBP 10,000
- DSP5200HC/VC SE --- GBP 5,250
- DSP7200 SE ----------- GBP 24,000
- DSP7200HC/VC SE --- GBP 12,500
- DSP8000 SE ----------- GBP 43,000
- DSP8000VC SE -------- GBP 22,000

Sadly as a current upgradable 5200 owner I shall not be upgrading. An upgrade at more than 2/3rds of the list price of my current speakers or nearly half that of new SE speakers is unpalatable especially given that after the upgrade my 5200s will not be the same specification as new 5200SEs. Perhaps if I had non-SL speakers the value for money of the upgrade would be more to me.

When I look at the cost of upgrading my centre the value is even less appealing. I have already paid a premium to obtain a single speaker that other than perhaps firmware is identical to my main speakers!

Cheers,
Tony
