converter

Anyone used one of these before ? Am looking at how to get an SPDIF into an M80 which only has optical input.

Feedback or alternatives appreciated.

cheers

Hi Nick
I've one of these from time to time and they seem fine

I haven't listened "critically" but they did work..........the fact that they go Coax to Optical or Optical to Coax is also handy on occasion

N.B. the Keene device you linked to says "Optical Input" and "Coax Output"........but there likely is another one that does the opposite

QED Coax to Optical Converter

Hi,

Well spotted Ronnie _ it's this one:

http://www.keene.co.uk/electronic/kramer/s/pdif-coax-to-optical-toslink-convertor/PT1SPDIF.html

The unit from Keene is actually from Kramer who manufacture good quality pro-grade equipment.

I'm in the same 'boat' as I've just bought a M80.

I use a Keene distribution system to send digital audio via coax around the house, so I may go for that unit to do the conversion close to the M80.

Brian

As a follow on, the Keene / Kramer Coax to Optical is at the link below

Kramer Coax to Optical Converter

Alternatively, the Cyp unit below appears to be a ReBranded copy of the QED Unit (or Vice Versa)........and just like the QED unit, it goes both ways

I use a Fostex one which I picked up off eBay. M-Audio do/did one too. The Fostex one can handle 96k.

http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/archive_products/COP1_96k.shtml

Didn't realise this was no longer a current product, but may be helpful if you can find one. I remember mine being cheap.

The Kramer spec says it handles 32-192k (FWIW)

Is a shame that M's units don't actually connect easily digitally in this scenario. I'm not too keen to use the 3.5" analogue jack that's for sure.!!!

VK mentions the M-audio CO2. You are welcome to try mine for a while short of me having a W T F moment on an MC200 tomorrow.

You can tell me if you want talking into or out of anything on the way wink

Borrowing would be great>>>thanks. Am currently testing C10 into AUX1 via a 3.5" jack/phono converter. It works but would be helpful to test both routes in.

cheers

Ah, OK. I had a quick look at one of the links but didn't see any reference.

For a simple device it looks very well documented.
