I don't think it is too interesting. It is the usual posturing, positing and puncturing.

All too true I'm afraid - although I'm somewhat guilty of the same as I am 'Ca1ore' on AVS.

S-Video, Component Video, Unbalanced RCA Analog outputs. You can't be serious.

You know, there are a LOT of ways to really screw up a system with bass management. And Meridian is extremely cautious about getting that right and not allowing users to mess it up. That includes having too much (tight or not tight). I suspect this person is getting bass that is off the charts but not what the recordings intended. And that person likes that. And feels he is getting his money's worth out of his speakers/subs. Or he had his system totally messed up when he had the Meridian installed.

Like what one of the posters in that thread said. Getting Movies right with decent equipment is not that hard. It's Music that's much harder. Shaking a house with a movie just isn't that hard, if that's all you are after and what this reviewer seemed to think was most important.

ADA makes some cool stuff and I considered them at one time. But the only other company I would consider is Lexicon.

Not so...the ADA in question has NO s-video inputs, NO Component video inouts and ONLY XLR outputs...

I respectfully disagree in that in comparing the Meridian configuartion software versus the ADA configuration the respective bass capabilities and limitations are not all that different [i.e. read, more simialr than different]...

I would also add that I would suggest that people read my posting in that thread as I am liekly one of the few who has experience with eth 861V4, 861V6 and ADA MACH IV B...

I guess they do have a "Balanced" version but have not put it up on their web site. Seems really odd you can't find anything but a news release on it from April.

"In addition to featuring a simple to read and operate front panel control and its abundance of connection jacks, the Cinema Rhapsody Mach IV incorporates two bass crossovers, one in the DSP and one in the analog domain. This makes it possible for the Cinema Rhapsody Mach IV to work with full-range speakers, permitting them to play bass information while at the same time summing the bass of full-range channels with channels that are rolled off as well as the LFE (low frequency effects or ".1") channel. The subwoofer (speaker best designed to deliver bass) plays the bass from all channels simultaneously with the other speakers that are capable of delivering bass. With any other preamp, full range speakers would need to "roll-off" (not play bass) so that the subwoofer would play the bass. Not so with the Cinema Rhapsody Mach IV."

Certainly sounds like bass doubling to me. Funny how I suspected bass doubling was happening and sure enough it's a "feature".

I will allow Ken to speak for himself but before this thread goes further south please note that the OP is *NOT* using this capability / feature...

I think Meridian has a very unique sonic signature, it is warm and fluffy, and if you are a movie watcher something that gives as much detail but with a faster midrange may sound better to many. It's all down to what you like.

I had a Tag DP192 after my original 568.2 as I was hearing how open and detailed it was, after 2 nights I was gutted as I hated it, where as mates thought it was so much better.

Just a shame if you like the 861v6 sound over the ADA MachIV as the price for the M is so much more!! Is it worth paying the extra? If you like one and not the other then of course it is, if you can afford it.

No Darling, I've had it months!
